This is a MUSIC thread, Philistines (big grin)!

John Hartford

I would not be here if I hadn't been there
And I wouldn't been there if I hadn't just turned
On Wednesday the third in the late afternoon
Got to talking with George
who works out in the back
And only because he was getting off early
To go see a man at a Baker Street bookstore
With a rare first edition of "Steamboats and Cotton"
A book he would never have sought in the first place
Had he not been inspired
By a fifth grade replacement schoolteacher in Kirkwood
Who was picked just at random
By some man on a school board who couldn't care less
And she wouldn't been working
If not for her husband
Who moved two months prior to work in the office
Of a man he had met
While he served in the army
And only because they were in the same barracks
An accident caused by a poorly made roster
Mixed up on the desk of a Sargent from Denver
Who wouldn't be in but for being in back
In the car he was riding before he enlisted that hit a cement truck
And killed both his buddies
But a back seat flew up there and spared him from dying
And only because of the fault of a workman
Who forgot to turn screws on a line up in Detroit
Cause he hollered at Sam who was hateful that morning
Hungover from drinking alone at a tavern
Because of a woman he wished he'd not married
He met long ago at a Jewish bar mitzvah
For the son of a man who had moved there from Jersey
Who managed a drugstore that sold the prescription
That cured up the illness he caught way last summer
He wouldn't have caught except for some kid
All contagious from fever who sat in his lap
Was the son of a man who sold him insurance
He met at a (trails off)

"If not for"...stream of coinincidence plots are a fav.
There was a movie Bug that was based on a bug that changed future events. There is a different movie also called Bug about paranoia which sucks. The words you use indicates to me that there is alot of 5 o'clock somewhere goin on. The first time I encountered this genre was "For lack of a nail a war was lost...

Mrrzy, when you're so vague all you post is a date, nobody knows what the hell the thread's about.
I moved it back up.

And I am not from the Filipines, silly mortal!

I was touched by your concern, too, nice kind person that you are!

I was wondering if anybody would recognize that fragment. It tends to pop up into my brain every Weds the 3rd.

Then there are Weds morning at 5 and Friday morning at 9...

Obscure lyric thread?

It was the third o' June, another sleepy, dusty Delta day.
I was out choppin' cotton an' my brother was bailin' hay,
And at dinner time we stopped an' walked back to the house to eat,
An' Mama hollered out the back door, "Y'all remember to wipe your feet,"
And then she said, "I got some news this mornin' from Choctaw Ridge.
Today Billie Joe McAllister jumped off the Tallahatchie Bridge."

Oh, you beat me to it Joe. That song usually pops into my head on the 3rd of June.

A couple of decades ago I made a joke about it to an adult class I was teaching and they all looked at me blankly. They were too young to remember the song. How old did that make me feel?

Mrrzy, sorry for the mistake. The only "George" I could think of was George Floyd, and if you'd been talking to him, well. I was a little concerned, and when it comes down to stuff like that, yeah, I'm a nice, kind person. Thanks for noticing.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled whatever.

Not obscure enough.

How about Maybe she'll cry an awful lot, maybe she'll sigh (and maybe not)?

Not to be confused with She ain't got no (yes she does)...
