Paul and Linda Adams sang "The Sun Shines Fair on Carlisle Wall" on their 1975 album "Far Over the Fell: Songs and Ballads of Cumbria". Silly Wizard sang "Carlisle Wall" on their 1976 album "Silly Wizard": She`s leaned her head against a thorn, The sun shines fair on Carlisle wa'; And there she has her young babe born, And the lyon shall be lord of a'. However, I have found a reference to a song called "Carlisle Hall" indexed in 'Ghosts in Popular Culture and Legend' edited by June Pulliam and Anthony J. Fonseca but, at £46.30, I'd prefer to find a more affordable way of chasing the song. Of course, this one may not be the variant of The Cruel Mother listed in the Wiki article. |
