BS: Anyone cancelling Whitby accomodation?

Bit of a long shot but has anyone booked accomodation for 6-8 people at Whitby and wants to sell it on because the festival is cancelled? If so, I may be able to help!

I emailed a place in RHBay I'd used before but never got a reply. That's emails for you. People don't get them or cba to reply.

Christ almighty this is woke PC gone mad..

Is there nothing safe from being cancelled these days..

What Dracula got up to in Whitby was over 100 years ago, and there is plenty of evidence to suggest his so-called victims were willing consenting participants..

This is just another case of cash grabbing distant relatives seeking compensation, and spoiling ordinary hard working people's fun..

Of course the loony left is bound to jump on the bandwagon siding against vampires,
protesting anything even slightly to do with them must be cancelled.

And for what reason, unsubstantiated hearsay regarding alleged incidents in the Whitby area, which may or may not have occurred over a century ago..

Give it a rest wokies...

I get it, BobL.

BobL,

I think dtg is referring to the cancelled Whitby Folk week. pfr seems to be bringing the Whitby Goth Weekends into the equation although their October event appears to be going ahead.

I think it's simpler than that John. Probably a reference to the cancelling Whitby bit in the title. I could be wrong but that is how I read it and found it amusing.

Sorry PFR. Looks like your joke has had a stake through its heart!

Goffs...???

Oh, right.. had't thought about them..

The youth sub cult that time forgot...

They're probably immune from being cancelled by wokies,
because most millennials probably don't even know goths every existed...???

Though if they do ever find out..
That 'white face' makeup might be a bit problematic...???

Now that's an ideological argument I'd like to see between the left and right...

Btw, going off on an even more complete tangent..

Back in the mid 1990s, I was at a London house party,
held by an old mate who is a somebody in the horror genre fiction business..

A clique of guests were young self identifying vampires..
They definitely looked the part.
But when they opened their mouths they were so hilariously conventional and boring.
A larger part of their group conversation
was discussing the ins and outs of that weeks top TV soap opera episodes..
Then one of them got in a panic because he couldn't find his bus pass..

Apparently he must also have forgotten how to turn into a bat and fly home...???

That was a good two decades before "What we do in the shadows"...

There are sub cultures within the Goth genre. Romantic Goth with the vampiric look are the ones most people think of but there are industrial Goths and even punk Goths! I have no idea where Emos fit in :-(

I have been to both folk and Goth festivals at Whitby and they are both great. One occasion, possibly one April, saw the Goth festival and Moor and Coast Folk festival overlap a little. The border teams in tatters and make up went down a bomb with the Goths. Last time I was at Whitby there was also a steam punk festival, complete with a steam punk Morris side. The town is a veritable festival magnet

Oh millennials, pfr. Agh, I'm not sure they would know getting bitten on the bum by a "Hammer Horror" or in a slightly different direction, know that the Avengers has characters including Cathy Gale, Emma Peel and John Steed in it.

But that's my age.... and I'll leave my (probably) poor attempt here with something dtg asked in another (political) thread.

The small willied bloke could be "Little Willy or at least the song is in my era...

I'll openly admit I've always fancied the looks of vampish Goth girls..

(Would psychologists trace it back to the sight of Fenella Fielding in Carry on Screaming when I was 7...???)

Certainly can't complain about the influences of burlesque on their appearance..

I remember my jaw dropping when I saw some Japanese Goth girls walking past the Marquee club in London...

They'd be getting on at least 60 by now...

Was there a female Morris side that dressed a bit Gothy...???

Was rather surprised when some Steam Goths (?if that was what they called themselves?) turned up at a Sealed Knot event in Nantwich. At a C17 dance and music event I was calling for. But then I've met someone in uniform from the wrong Civil War there too (not sure if he was N or S).
Any excuse to dress up.

My Whitby accommodation is too small for your group Dave, and I'm probably going this year anyway.
