From Rolling Stone
Don and Phil may have been my first musical heroes. Don was a great singer who also wrote some great songs.

I forget which Everly Brother it was who told the press,
we didn't have fight after fight --
we had one fight that lasted x number of years ...

The only place those two were going to have a happy reunion,
was in the Great Beyond.
Gentlemen Brothers Everly, you have earned yourselves
the happiest of reunions
for the happiness you brought so many of us.

Condolences to family and friends.
We “baby boomers” have been blessed with some memorable music from the Everly Brothers that brought us great joy in our youth and indeed later years. Thanks Don (& Phil) for sharing your music with us. I can imagine close harmony Rock n Roll/ Do-wap resounding in heaven.

As a huge aficionado of all music with harmonies, they were the ONLY two where either part could be melody or harmony and sound perfectly acceptable as either.

As Bradfordian said above, we boomers were lucky. We got to hear music of all "genre" on the radio before music got squished into strict genres and radio stations quit playing everything.

Part of everyone's growing up if you are part of that first postwar generation.

Good Stuff. Never boomed a baby but music such as the Everlys was part of my childhood. Thanks to all of them. Pity it's history.

Don & Phil learned their harmony from their dad, Ike Everly, who was a country singer and guitarist in the 40s and 50s. Ike was influenced by the Louvin Brothers who sang with a lead and baritone harmony, and often switched between lead and harmony. Their rendition of ‘Alabama’ is a great example of switching vocal lines.

Sibling harmony is something the Everly brothers were known for. This article from 1999 talks about it.

Thanks for the link, SRS. The Gatlin Brothers used to amaze me.

This is a great performance by the Everlys while the mighty Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins accompany.

Why Worry?
