Is a non member allowed to post an instrument for sale?

They have in the past. It helps if you have a history here.

you may as well get (free) membership; it will make it easy for Mudcat members to contact you without you having to publish other contact details on the open discussion thread.

Hi Roger,

It's easy to become a member. Go to the Membership link at the top of the page just under the Mudcat banner.

There are lots of interesting people here whose common interest is music, mostly of the folk and blues variety but other types of music discussion also arise.

Some of us have been here for a couple of decades or more and still going strong.

I wasn't responding so much to the member/non-member part of the question, but the reputation established that a buyer could trust the seller. Having some history on this site helps with that reputation.

But you may do better on a site that is more specific to your instrument, e.g. mandolin.net or concertina.net - or there are Facebook groups for buying/selling instruments within limited geographical areas. This site is global, so if you do advertise here, do at least indicate which country you are in.

Wondering if this is "good manners."

I have some instruments for sale. Is it cricket to list them here? The "marketplace" link does not seem to work.

Thanks.

Saul

Post links to the sites where you have them listed, if that's how you're doing it.

If you're listing them to sell through Mudcat, you'll have to work out how to communicate. If members respond, you can send personal messages through the Mudcat site. Otherwise you'll have to post email, phone, etc. info. If you want that removed after the sale, let one of the moderators know and we can take out the contact information (leaving the sales info intact, as a source of information regarding instruments and current sales prices).

Hi, Roger -

Yeah, it is better to be a member and an actual part of this community, so people know who you are and feel easier about doing business with you. But you aren't. So, post what you have for sale and we can talk about it.

I'll note that I was responding to saulgoldie's post, not Roger from 11 months ago. That ship may have sailed. sg is a member; communication is only an issue if non-members inquire about purchase.

Is the MC Auction still functioning? I was thinking of putting a few instruments up.

Hi, Gillymor - I tested the auction today, and it wasn't working. I've never been a big fan of the auction and would like it and the "record shop" and a few other features to disappear, but what do others think?

Saulgoldie, if you'd like to sell something, start a new thread. I think it's less confusing if one person sells stuff in one thread. And yes, we've always let nonmembers offer musical items for sale, although they're far more trusted sellers if they are registered members.
