Subject: Lyr Req: Song-I've got better things to do
From: topical tom

Many years ago (in the sixties, I think ) I was watching a tv show called"Hootenanny" and although I never cared much for the program a certain song caught my ear. Here is the first verse of the song (which is all that I remember):
The other day I met a Marine.
He was the strangest thing I've seen.
He said "You'd look better in jungle green."
             Hey! Hey! Hey!Hey!
I've got better things to do

The song was sung by John Fogarty Not the lead singer of CCR, though I'm not sure of that.Does anyone know this song?

Perhaps a British or Irish singer and song?

Once again I am in search of a song. I heard it only once on the tv program "Hootenanny" in the 1960's. This is the first verse:

topical tom, please when you start a new thread asking about a song, name the thread with a specific title, for example in this case "Lyr Req: I met a marine" or "Lyr Req: better in jungle green".

It makes it easier for people reading the thread title to decide whether to open the thread, i.e. whether they might know anything about it and may be able to help, and it is also easier when searching for a thread. If the title of the song is identified the moderator can change the title of the thread later. This is a site where information is stored, and it is used to search for information. Please make it easier for that information search process.

When there are multiple threads with generic titles like "forgotten song" or "searching for a song" and especially when more than one song lands in that thread it is very difficult to search easily and effectively through the extremely large collection here on Mudcat.

Please see my suggestion in the thread you started about the song about a marine. Lyr Req: forgotten songs

Please keep each thread separate and don't add new "mystery song" requests to a thread about a different, unrelated song.

OK, I've tried my best to sort things out here. This is the thread for the "I Met a Marine" song. and The Baby's Name is the other song Tom was seeking.
Tom, if you're looking for a song, post all your questions and information in one thread. If the thread title needs changing, ask me. But if multiple requests for one song are spread all over a number of threads, it gets really confusing.
Thanks.
