2022 Obit: Paul Sartin (1971-15 Sept 2022)

I was very saddened to read the announcement of the death of Paul Sartin earlier today. A superb musician on oboe and fiddle, he was best known as a member of Bellowhead but he also played with Faustus and Belshazzar's Feast.
He was 51. I believe that the cause of death was a serious fall.

I heard this devastating news a couple of hours ago. I was shocked and saddened beyond belief. I liked and respected Paul. My thoughts are with his family and all his friends. He had so much more to give. It is going to be hard for us all to say goodbye to a great musician, and one of nature's gentlemen. RIP.

From the Wikipedia article:

It's desperately sad news.

There's a lovely piece here written by his neighbour Jon Wilks

Devastating and very sad news. Paul was one of the finest, a fantastic all-round musician and singer, a true gentleman who always had so much to give, a generous spirit and the embodiment of good honest English folk music. Condolences to his family and numerous friends. RIP Paul.

I’m shocked and saddened with this awful news. Paul was a superb musician, a composer, an arranger, a musical director and one of the good, caring guys. He co-founded Whitchurch Folk Club and specialised in fiddle and oboe; he was a major part of Bellowhead, Belshazzar’s Feast and Faustus.

Years ago, I took a picture of the two Pauls (Sartin and Hutchinson) when Belshazzar’s Feast played in Llantrisant Folk Club; the picture totally captured his impish grinning face, and it’s emblazoned in the Folk Club banner to this day. Here’s to a great, brilliant singer and player; deepest condolences to his family, to Doug and Sue and all the musicians who had the absolute pleasure of working with him.

Terribly sad news: enjoyed seeing him as part of Belshazzar’s Feast and in Bellowhead, and conducting his workshop at Sidmouth in previous years. And his singing of “Home, Lads, Home” had many an audience member reaching for their tissue handkerchiefs.

RIP - some of his good folk music was just played on the BBC's Folk Show; and I read on Wiki that he was also a competent choral singer.
