Oh, Robbie Coltrane played Hagrid. He did a wonderful job of playing that role in the Harry Potter movies. He also played a villain (Zukovsky) in a couple of James Bond movies in the 1990s.

I loved his surreal comedy in Oceans 11

Robert Carlyle will be broken-hearted.
"Cracker"'s multi-episode arc,
To Be A Somebody,
was an enormous career breakthrough for Carlyle,
a performance that people still talk about years later.

He was in one of the best Blackadder episodes: C is for Contrafibularity.

They're showing the Harry Potter films on television here
as a tribute to Hagrid / Robbie Coltrane.
Just saw
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, at the end of which
Hagrid returns to Hogwarts from Azkaban and receives
a standing ovation from students and faculty alike.
Heart-warming scene, one of my all-time favorites.

In Norwich Castle Mall, where we were yesterday, they've put up a lovely big photo of Robbie Coltrane in his Hagrid costume, and many people were looking at it sadly. Great character actor.

We were at the John Byrne exhibition in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Museum and art gallery in September, just a few weeks before Robbie died: it included a whole section on Robbie, including an old TV programme about him(? Arena) well before the Harry Potter days, more about “Tutti Frutti”, another of his triumphs. (which no-one else has recalled so far?)
