22 Oct 22 - 11:46 AM (#4155962) Subject: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Dave the Gnome I have started seeing adverts for ladies lingerie on Mudcat. There is some modelled by a lady with one leg! What have I done to warrant this? I'm frightened to click into them as I could end up trying to sneak out like Father Ted :-D |
22 Oct 22 - 11:53 AM (#4155964) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Jeri They're shown to you because of your browser history. Where gave you been, Dave? ;-) |

22 Oct 22 - 04:10 PM (#4156005) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Steve Shaw I get those too. I'm not complaining anywhere near as much as I did when I got ads for lascivious Russian/Turkish/Asian/Ukrainian ladies who were all lusting after me... |
22 Oct 22 - 04:23 PM (#4156008) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: The Sandman I do not get any at all, i am chuffed |
22 Oct 22 - 04:55 PM (#4156011) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Steve Shaw You don't know what you're missing, pal. I have to angle the iPad away from the missus when I scrutinise. Eh, Dave! ;-) |
22 Oct 22 - 05:38 PM (#4156018) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: WalkaboutsVerse Mine are much less interesting - hotels in Tenerife and broad-brimmed hats. |
22 Oct 22 - 06:55 PM (#4156024) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Joe Offer I have just one ad at the end of all the messages in a thread, but above the message "reply" box. Much less invasive than it has been in the past. -Joe- |
22 Oct 22 - 07:36 PM (#4156027) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Jeri I don't get them on the laptop (AdBlock), so none for me...until I get on the phone (which does NOT have AdBlock.) |
22 Oct 22 - 07:47 PM (#4156028) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Steve Shaw It troubles me somewhat that I get all this internet stuff for free, but am able if I want to to disable the ads that keep it free (yes, I know that I pay more for the stuff in the ads, etc....), so I've never used ad blockers. I do tend to not invite weird ads as I don't do weird internet stuff, but I suppose that the odd accidental fat-finger click can have, er, unusual stuff raining down on me. I think that has happened to me quite a few times. It doesn't bother me much. |
22 Oct 22 - 08:45 PM (#4156034) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: keberoxu My pop-up ad displays are Yeti water bottles and Acrobat Adobe. |
23 Oct 22 - 10:13 AM (#4156078) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: keberoxu Today the strange adverts are Semrush Canva Squarespace Vrbo and US Dept of Veterans' Affairs |
23 Oct 22 - 11:15 AM (#4156085) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Steve Shaw I'm getting electric pushbikes, crash helmets for same and lots of ladies' underwear ads, including that lady with just the one leg. |
23 Oct 22 - 11:21 AM (#4156087) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Steve Shaw Now I'm getting military-style blokes' gear.... I'm going to wish I hadn't said that... |
23 Oct 22 - 12:05 PM (#4156099) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: WalkaboutsVerse ...stand by, Steve, for a choice of camouflage-coloured tandem bicycles - with (waste not want not) only 3 pedals... |
24 Oct 22 - 03:42 AM (#4156174) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Mr Red All of the above. What does that say about my browsing history? |
24 Oct 22 - 04:04 AM (#4156177) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Dave the Gnome I got the military style gear this morning! Funnily enough though, I wouldn't mind a green rifleman's jacket as seen in "Sharpe" but they didn't display one of those. |

25 Oct 22 - 03:25 AM (#4156275) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: BobL I have 4 networked computers running different operating systems. I use the Windows 7 machine for Mudcat: the text comes up in a comfy size and there are fewer ads. As I type, there's a single ad at the bottom, plugging "Aesthetic Surgery in Turkey". I'm not quite curious enough to follow it up. |
25 Oct 22 - 11:11 AM (#4156315) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: keberoxu Now the advertisements are Ashley Furniture and Dynatrace, whatever that is. |
25 Oct 22 - 12:51 PM (#4156324) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: MaJoC the Filk Wikipedia article on Dynatrace, Inc. High buzzword quotient; good luck decrypting the technobabble. But it might give you a clue. Oh, and give that "Aesthetic Surgery in Turkey" a seriously wide berth. There's an article on BBC's red-button pages about ppl having to have hospital treatment on the NHS on return from cut-price surgery abroad. |
26 Oct 22 - 07:44 AM (#4156396) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Donuel I get new gadget invention ads. If I am curious I access them elsewhere otherwise I will get flooded with ads here. |
29 Oct 22 - 05:07 PM (#4156694) Subject: RE: BS: Strange adverts on the Cat! From: Steve Shaw I keep seeing an ad for a revolutionary monocular for £39.99 that's better than the Hubble telescope. Jaysus, I'm tempted. |
