Geoff Higginbottom-serious illness, still performs

07 Jul 23 - 03:54 PM (#4176314)
Subject: Geoff Higginbottom
From: Dave the Gnome

The following is copied from Facebook with Geoff's permission

To all my chums in facebookland. For quite some time now I have amused myself (and, hopefully, yourselves) with my inane/silly/ridiculous posts and Geroff stories etc. Sadly there comes a time to be serious and this is it.
Following a recent consultation I have been told that they can no longer repair my cancerous liver but can only slow its progress to the best of their ability. As a result, all carefully laid plans have gone out of the window.
Please do not be too sad. I have had a wonderful life and I intend to make the best of that part of it which is still left.
I am hoping to visit one or two of my favourite folk clubs one last time over the coming months and see as many of you as I can. Please do not be offended if I don't make it to your club as I will be spending the bulk of my time with close family.
Hopefully, by tomorrow, I will be up to returning to the inane/ silly/ ridiculous etc.
Take care all.
Geoff.

A very brave post by a brilliant performer, great man and good friend.

I know Geoff will do just as he says and make the most of his time. Let's support him in any way we can. If you get chance to see him, do it. Raise the rafters on one of his shanties, shed a tear for the Flowers of Manchester and fall about laughing at his stories :-)

Hi Dave,
Obviously, we heard Geoff wasn't good. Having both read your post and Geoff's words, we are amazed at his bravery. Please pass on our love, and tell him we're thinking of him.

Will do, Nick. He's at the White Lion in Swinton next Friday. Interested?

Sad to hear this. It must be forty odd years since our paths last crossed. In fact I think he was still working in a bank in Levenshulme!

Sorry to read this. We booked him a few times back in the days of the Llandudno folk club.

Dave, I thought Swinton was a Monday club. Is this a special event?

Got it Nick - Thanks. It had gone into spam because I had not had any mail from there before!

I saw Ged and Sue this afternoon and got tickets. Ged is very keen that there will be a number of concerts arranged for Geoff, and sadly, sooner rather than later. If anybody reading this thread wants to arrange something then go right ahead is the message I received this afternoon.

Just got back from the Swinton gig. He was as entertaining as ever. There was a good crowd there including Gary and Vera and Stanley Accrington.
