Terribly sad news. Bruce was a fine replacement for Donnie Munro when he left to, unsuccessfully, follow a political career. Such a sad loss at only 62. RIP

The loss of Bruce is being felt very strongly in Scotland where Runrig were one of the foremost bands, having played for 45 years until their final two concerts at Stirling in 2018. Bruce had been with the band for 20 years, after Donnie Munro left. I remember being at one of Bruce’s earliest concerts with Runrig, possibly only the second, at Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom, a somewhat daunting venue to play. He looked extremely nervous at the start, but his rich voice and stage presence soon won the hearts of the audience and he visibly relaxed.

His funeral service takes place this Thursday, Sept 14th, in Nova Scotia, and is followed later by a celebration of his life. Both are being live-streamed on YouTube. The funeral is at 2pm Canada time, 6pm UK time, and the celebration is at 7pm/11pm.
