02 Oct 23 - 12:32 AM (#4190620) Subject: Julia Jones From: Tony Rees Sorry to report, but I have recently read twice (in separate places) on Facebook that Julia Jones, long time partner of Nic Jones and keeper of the flame of his music alive via Mollie Music (www.nicjones.net) passed away recently. I have no other information regarding this but possibly others have. I never met Julia in person but she was always cordial in recent correspondence we had regarding some of Nic's early recordings. In a discussion of one of Nic's performed songs "The Isle of St. Helena", Julia mentioned that her great great grandmother was born there! Presuming that the above is correct, my sincere condolences to the Jones household, and maybe others on this list have more information. Tony Rees, Australia. |

Of course she just signed herself "Julia" so I am not to know what was her preference in conversation or with friends. There is a photo of Julia and Nic together posted on Twitter by Pete Heywood taken in 2007 on the occasion of Nic's 60th Birthday party, here. - Tony |

I was very sad to hear it. I had contact with Julia during my 6 years as Secretary of The topic Folk Club when arranging bookings for Nic at the club. She was always a pleasure to deal with and had a good sense of humour, I would have liked to have met her face to face. After Nic’s accident which was a couple of weeks after he had played our club, I would have been at that gig had it not clashed with our club. When Julia started Molly Music I had contact again when obtaining records especially the Halliard releases. She was also very good at passing on information on the latest that Nic Was involved with. I had been getting round to contacting her again re some past recordings when Keith dropped the news on me. It is very sad her passing and my condolences go to Nic, Helen and Joe at this very sad time. Trevor Charnock |
