From: GUEST,Cori "Daniel Boone," Season 5, episode 25. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VpWO8Gx1RMI Got almost to the end of this one before I was stumped. 48:31-48:51 fiddle tune reminiscent of several songs but isn't any of them. 49:32: Same tune starts again. Starts out almost like "Soldier's Joy" and then a little like "Skip to My Lou" but not exactly either one, like a medley but not. Is this even a real tune or is the fiddler just making it up? Thanks for any help. |

From: Lighter Yes, indeed, "The Rakes of Mallow," in a square dance rhythm and the second strain an octave lower. A good choice for the show, since according to the Traditional Tune Index it first appeared in print (as a "Caledonian Country Dance") in 1733. |

27 Jan 24 - 02:26 PM (#4196248) Subject: RE: Tune Req: Another Fiddle Tune from Daniel Boone! From: GUEST,Cori Coming back to ask, are you absolutely sure about "The Rakes of Mallow"? I played a couple of YouTube videos identified as "The Rakes of Mallow" and this tune is very familiar to me. I know it as "Mitty Matty Had a Hen," and the tune used constantly through the movie "The Quiet Man." The tune I asked to have identified sounds nothing like this and was unfamiliar except for sounding a little like "Skip to My Lou." Thanks. |
