I remember him very well. There is some great you tube video of him at the Musical Traditions Club.

We once did a support for him at a caravan social concert in suffolk, his performance was clever, entertaining, and witty. A charming man and performer

A lovely, man with a great sense of humour. I was always impressed by his easy way with his audience, allied to his huge knowledge.
He was a great correspondent with the late Ted & Ivy Poole of Swindon, who had a collection of his broadsides & his daily thoughts on events.
The music will be a lot poorer for his loss- a great man RIP

Sad to lose such a brilliant performer. I saw him quite often in my London days and bought a few of his broadsides, sadly I have only one of his booklets left in my collection of folk material. Unique and irreplaceable man.

The last time I saw John was at the birthday of his friend Kit Cooper on a boat down the Thames. I remember he used to perform at the Unity Theatre back in the 60’s together with Kit and Ronnie Baugh. Dan Butler another friend reminds me of John whenever we meet, we sing one of his favourite songs ‘If wasn’t for the houses in between’
He was a ‘one off’ and a legend in his lifetime. My condolences to all his family and many friends. RIP
John

A brilliant entertainer, I saw John perform a lot in the 60s. His act rarely varied but that didn't matter. He was very polished and even though we knew what was coming it still kept us in stitches. R.I.P, John.

A sad loss. it only seems like yesterday that I was chatting to him at a pub in Epping - the occasion being the wake for his ex-wife, Rita, who was the washboard player in our band in Bayswater in the late '60s. A lovely man, and still very fond of Rita even after being divorced for many years.

John was an ever welcome guest at Catford and "Elsie`s" and a mine of information for us. Another sad loss.
