Best wishes for the day Steve - Have a good 'un :-)

It seems like only yesterday that you were just one year older than me, now it is two. You old bugger :-D

Why, that's very grapefruit of youse - cheers! It's me 73rd (Dave didn't like to tell you that bit!) and we'll be celebrating with fish, chips 'n' mushy peas from the chippy tonight, washed down with summat non-low alcohol, and I might knock out a few tunes on the ould gob-iron as well. I've already been told off this morning for doing a 150-decibel rendering of Danny Boy in the kitchen. Where's the fun! ;-)

Our local chippy closed a while back but on passing yesterday we noticed that the for sale sign had gone and there was a new ownership sign outside. Looking forward to trying it :-)

I'll have to make some of my legendary tartar sauce as our chippy doesn't sell it. I'll hum/whistle that great tune Timour the Tartar as I'm doing it. Must try to get my gob-iron round that one!

Hey, Steve! I haven’t seen you on the board lately — glad to see you’re still blowing your harp. As it were.

Happy birthday!

I'm generally around at the top end quite a bit!

Q. What's the difference between a harmonica player and a bodhran player?

A. The harmonica player only sucks half the time...

Q. If you throw a Bodhran and a Banjo off a cliff, which hits the ground first?

A. Who cares...

We did! Washed down with a Spanish rosé...

Surely there's a song somewhere about a Spanish Rose? I knew a girl like that once...

Of course! Ben E. King had a rose in Spanish Harlem, and Van the Man had a song called Spanish Rose. There'll be others!

My "You're Welcome" comment was in response to a post Steve made thanking us for our good wishes. The post seems to have been lost when the other comments were move below the line. By mistake I'm sure.

Happy belated birthday, Mr. Shaw, many returns of the day. And may I have your recipe for tartar sauce?

I shall ask him for it and post when I get chance, Neil. He can no longer post on this thread :-(

Just in from the man himself :-)

The tartare sauce is so quick and simple. The quantities are not set in stone but here's what I do:
You need a handful of little cornichons, maybe six or seven, a tablespoon and a half of nonpareil capers (the little ones), rinsed, a tablespoon or more of finely chopped fresh parsley, a tiny squeeze of lemon (needed but don't overdo it), five tablespoons of mayo (full-fat Hellmans for me!) and seasoning to taste.

Chop the cornichons and capers very finely on a board then just mix everything together in a bowl. Chill, then voila! Too thick? Add more mayo.

Enjoy :-)

Thanks Dave and Steve, I can't wait to try it. I can't remember seeing cornichons in my local grocery. I wonder if I could use sweet gherkins instead.

Hi Neil - From Steve again -

"...gherkins would be just as good! Maybe one healthy-sized gherkin to replace the cornichons. Size is everything!"
