FSGW Getaway weekend Sept 27-30, 2024

The Folklore Society of Greater Washington's annual Getaway weekend is coming up SOON! From Friday evening, Sept. 27 to Monday morning Sept. 30, we'll have a great weekend of singarounds, concerts, jamming and fun in a supportive environment at a beautiful Maryland riverside retreat. The time to register is now! Go to www.fsgw.org/getaway, and you'll find a description of the event and a registration form.

We have a fine lineup of special guests this year: Sally Rogers and Howie Bursen, Marcy Cochran, David Jones, and the fine West Virginia trio Bare Bones (Bill and Becky Kimmons and Dock Cutlip). All of these folks will be leading workshop sessions, doing concerts, and joining us for all the events -- planned and spontaneous -- of the weekend.

Hope you'll join us!

I just registered. (You don't have to pay immediately.. but it's helpful for planning to get registrations in early)

I can’t do it this year, and sorry for it. The choir season will be just started, and I’m responsible for issuing the music. Also, I found the long drive from Stratford very trying last year — all those hours of interstate, and the New York Turnpike Authority is still dunning me for a four-dollar toll I paid last October.

I hope the participants post lots of photos where I can see them.

I was already wondering if you could manage this year, Charmion. We will miss you, but I will quit worrying about it.
Have a good time with the choir and we'll try to get some pics for you.

I was there 2005, so it should
Be nice to be there 2025, and
Visit my friend in N Carolina
On the way.
I am recording my own music with
Lyrics from others, so we will see, if
The world has not been turned up side
Down, I will be there 2025.

All the best from me

Hey folks, this is a gentle reminder to please register if you haven't already. The co-chairs have let folks know that the current number of registrations is alarmingly low. Go to fsgw.org/getaway to register.

Hi folks! Registration closes in less than a week for the Getaway. We still have plenty of room, but NOW is the time to register. Do come join us if you can, at our beautiful site by the west River, an inlet of the Chesapeake Bay, outside of Annapolis. For Information, and to register, go to fsgw.org/getaway.

As much as I would like to go, and even though we're locals, it's just not possible for us this year. Even daytripping would present challenges.

Yes, we had fewer folks than in previous years, but we had a marvelous time anyway! Our guests (David Jones, Marcy Cochran, Sally Rogers & Howie Bursen, and the Bare Bones trio (Bill & Becky Kimmons and Dock Cutlip) were all fabulous, and it was fun to talk and sing with all of them AND with a great bunch of folkies. Lots of great workshops, concerts, jam sessions, and singarounds at all hours.

Now we'll start the planning for next year's Getaway -- do plan to be with us! We guarantee a great time!
