I'll be in London with a really, really musical friend this May 12-15... With whom can we connect?

Iwould asvise you to visit two folk clubs in the london area, loughton on the central underground line and cecil sharp house, sharps folk club. These in my opinion are the best Folk clubs in london

I second The Cecil Sharp House. They have all kinds of events there.

Location is;2 Regents Park Rd,NW1.

Tel.+44 20 7485 2206 Metro:Camden Town. That Metro is sometimes closed on Saturday because of the immense crowd heading for Camden market.
The alternate station would be Chalk Farm.

Good luck.

^^^^^ crill

Jennifer Reid, 21st century singer & researcher of Lancashire dialect work songs and Victorian broadside ballads, has it in a talk she gave[2024?] referring to Henry Cunliffe's 1886 'A Glossary of Rochdale-with-Rossendale' :

Crill is C, so that's a creeping chill

My recommendations are ...

Islington Folk Club - Thursdays and not far from the centre of town - Hu(http://www.islingtonfolkclub.co.uk/ifc.html)

The Cellar Upstairs - Mondays and in The Alpaca pub on Essex Road, Islington (https://www.cellarupstairs.org.uk/),

Both are near tube stations.

A favourite venue of mine is Green Note on Parkway in Camden Town - well worth checking out who's on during your visit.

I must add for the record that The Sandman's recommendation of Loughton FC is rather off the wall. Loughton isn't even in London (it's in Essex) and is almost an hour's journey by tube train from the the centre of the city.

& UK wide listings where there will be London stuff.

In particular the 'Folk Club Map' & the 'Folk Music Map' will give you a good idea of the geography and should have links for the places already recommended.
