Lyr Add: Love Will Endure (Patrick Sky)

We had this fragmented on another thread. Here's the complete song.

When first I came to town, I came in from the country.
Not a penny did I have, and not one cent could I offer.
But still our love was new and our troubles they were few,
They were few.

Many times I tried to tell you, all the hurt that I was feeling.
But my thoughts stumbled in my mind, and my words they lost their meaning.
I didn't mean to cause you pain, so I'm leaving once again,
Once again.

There's no need to think of me, I'll be happy where I'm going.
I've got roots that need a planting, and a love that needs a growing.
Where my pride won't have to bend, and my lips can taste the wind,
Taste the wind.

And as for you the years will heal, all the wounds that have been opened.
Just like time will rid the fields of all the flowers that have ripened.
Of all these things you can be sure.......Only love,
Will endure.

Patrick Sky

Found this site on the net awhile back and never bothered to post it here or on the other relevant threads and I should have done so.......Here's a page of four of Pat's songs that you can listen to, including "Love Will Endure"

He was influenced by Mississippi John and actually produced the last two albums Hurt did. He then went on to work with Peter LaFarge and Buffy Ste.Marie and you can hear Pat's influence on her.

Lean and beautiful describe a lot of his best ballads. Glad you liked it Amos, he's been my favorite for years and I was sad when he moved out and on to other things.....didn't like where the scene was going in the mid 70's. He's researched and written extensively, some for the Smithsonian, on Uillean Pipes and pipes in general.

I love that song, and I used to play it pretty often back in the 70s. I'll go back to my old LP collection and play it again. I'd forgotten about that little gem! It has such a gentle, plaintive feel to it - a sensitive blend of singing and songwriting. Thanks for posting that, Spaw.

I have never stopped doing this song either in part or in total. I'd do it as a companion piece to "Everytime" by Tom Paxton.

There is an elegance here that not many other songs even aspire to.

Spaw, I have the Vanguard CD - it is excellent. Is anything else by Sky available on CD (apart from 'Songs that made America famous')? Thanks for the lyrics to 'Love Will Endure'.

Sorry Stewie.....and sorry for myself too. I had all of them on vinyl and actually purchased a couple of them two or more times because I played the livin' hell out of them. I really loved his stuff and his slightly askew renditions of trad and semi-trad songs. Of the other three, I wouldn't pick a favorite. The two Verve albums were pretty much all his own stuff and unlike many singer/songwriters, his trad background made for songs that were provoking without being personally introspective.....in other words, anyone could sing them.

I have two of the MJH albums (on CD) he produced or played on. A complete listing is here....Patrick Sky Discography. I wish someone would bring them back on CD as my vinyl melted down in a warehouse fire.

Thanks, Spaw. That is a pity. Perhaps they will come in due course. For example, a couple of Fred Neil's Elektra albums have been reissued recently on a single CD. I have an order in for that - I thought it almost too good to be true.

Cheers, Stewie.
