Is this the Randy Sparks song "Denver" recorded by the New Christy Minstrels on their "In Person" album? If so I can eventually transcribe it from the LP, unless someone else comes up with it more quickly.

Could have helped you with DENVER by Larry Gatlin...

When she dropped me in Denver
I knew I had at least a mile to fall---

This may be it. I can't recall if it is in the old "Rosin the Beau" thread from last fall. It belongs to that family.

DENVER
(words by Randy Sparks; tune "Rosin The Beau)

I was driving a rig out of Texas,
Full loaded and bound for Cheyenne,
Taking my pleasure so freely,
Just a good loving rambling man.
I had quite a way with the ladies,
Sweet daddy was my middle name,
Til I got to a place they call Denver
And I ain't never been quite the same.

I've been to St. Louie and Abilene,
I rambled through many a town.
But I got me a woman in Denver,
Lord, that's where I'm settling down.

Well I kissed her and swore that I loved her,
I told her some day she'd be mine,
Then I laughed all the way back to Texas
(Ha Ha) To think she'd believe that old line.
Well I got to pinin' for Denver,
It's funny how things come to be.
And as I slipped a ring on her finger,
Well, I knew that the laugh was on me.

I've been to St. Louie and Abilene,
I rambled through many a town.
But I got me a woman in Denver,
Lord, that's where I'm settling down.

Now all you young fellers take warning,
You single men run for your life.
Be careful and stay our of Denver,
Or else you'll end up with a wife.
You'll walk dow the street unsuspecting,
And you won't believe what you see.
Cause the prettiest gals live in Denver,
Lord, you'll end up happy like me.

I've been to St. Louie and Abilene,
I rambled through many a town.
But I got me a woman in Denver,
Lord, that's where I'm settling down.

NAW! Rich--I was just kidding--
it's a Larry Gatlin composition from 1984--
but a pretty song...
Just watched the video and listened to it on an
old TNN COUNTRY STANDARD TIME show from 1991.

to raredance? it IS on the new Christy minstrels 1962-1970 CD, I just heard it in a movie set in 1916 and knowing Hollywood's inability to get facts straight, I'd like to know when it was written! write momcat316@aol.com thanks and HELLO to all other folk music addicts!

Hi, Momcat316 - This song first appeared on the New Christy Minstrels In Person album, which came out in 1963. So, I guess we can figure that 1963 is the publication date. Randy Sparks wrote a number of songs that sounded kind of historic.
