Hope it's that one...

I lit out from Reno, I was trailed by twenty hounds
Didn't get to sleep last night 'til the morning came around

Set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonight

Ran into the devil, babe, he loaned me twenty bills
I spent the night in Utah in a cave up in the hills

Set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonight

I ran down to the levee but the devil caught me there
He took my twenty dollar bill and vanished in the air

Set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonight

Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night
The first one's named Sweet Anne Marie
And she's my hearts delight
The second one is prison, babe, the sheriff's on my trail
And if he catches up with me, I'll spend my life in jail

Got a wife in Chino, babe
And one in Cherokee
The first one says she's got my child
But it don't look like me

Set out runnin' but I take my time
A friend of the devil is a friend of mine
If I get home before daylight
I just might get some sleep tonight

Goodness gracious, Poco may have played it, so have a million others, but Friend of the Devil is probably _the_ most widely known and covered song ever written by Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter for the Grateful Dead. You should definitely acquire their classic recording "American Beauty" c 1970 -- there is a lot more fine material on it. Also the followup "Workingman's Dead"--these are the two studio albums the Dean recorded in a country-rock motif.

Get em, you'll like em

YES! These are two of the best Grateful Dead albums ever. They contain other treasures too, such as "Uncle John's Band" (my favorite), "Ripple", "Trucking" (their big hit), "Casey Jones" ("Driving that train, high on cocaine...") and "Sugar Magnolia".

"Live Dead", a double album that came out just before these two, is probably their best live album. It has a 23 minute version of "Dark Star" that is exquisite and a song, "The Eleven" that is played in 11/16 timing (1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2).

There's also another verse that they sometimes played in concert:

You can borrow from the Devil
You can borrow from a friend
The Devil give you twenty bills
But your friend's got only ten.

I think those are the correct words. I can check tonight to make sure.
