Mudcat Concert Calendar

Subject: Mudcat Concert Calendar
From: MudGuard

As I already announced in the Unanswered Question thread, I might host a Mudcat Concert Calendar if there is enough interest.
It could look like MudGuard's Mudcat Concert Calender (MMCC) PREVIEW.

What is your opinion on this?

Good easy layout but you might consider going to a different font, one that's a little thiner. The present font could be hard to read.

Otherwise, a good job.

...I think this is a capital idea!!!! Let me be the first to post my next concert dates. "Paddy Go Easy" is playing Friday night March 17th at the Warehouse in Tallahassee, Fl. cover charge and five other Irish bands.
"The Doneygals" will be performing at the Florida Folk Festival. See program for dates and times.

Very Cool!

However, you may be in for a lot of work keeping this updated.

Now we need to get the Mudcat to put it in quick links...or did someone already mention this to Max?

IMHO--

1. I hate to see any of us duplicate the efforts of local media,

2. I'm concerned that non-'Cat people who want to send such announcements won't stop to see where to hang 'em and still throw 'em in the threads, or just not respect the procedure we set out

3. If it'll make more work for Joe and the AllNight Clones (when they could be on the road gigging), throwing thread-placed announcements into the calendar, that'll make it take longer to Help us and newbies have more 'Catfun.

Just my selfish response, not opposition.

Florida Folk Festival runs from Friday May 26th through Sunday May 28th. It is held at the Stephen Foster Memorial Park in White Springs , Florida. Paul G will be performing as well, I'm sure, in addition to other florida mudcatters. Cool idea Mudguard. Do we just e-mail you like we do Aine?harpgirl

Mudguard - it looks great, it's a good idea, but you are a glutton for punishment. Us Mudcatters are playing everywhere! We'll bury you with dates. Maybe restrict input to Mudcat members, maybe even to Mudcat calendar members - not to keep people out but to give best advantage to those strong supporters of the Mudcat Forum.

Also, might I suggest that you create an Excel spreadsheet form that calendar subscribers can download from the calendar site and use as their calendar date entry form. Build the form so that it has fixed field lengths, and fixed field formats to ensure accurate data input. The you can write a little program tha imports the calendar updates. Subscribers are responisble for accuracy of info.

I think if you try to do this manually, you'll be quickly buried!

I thought it was great > I would ask for a different font style/size ( larger ) and wouldn't it be great to have a box for performer/band name and then venue name/address ?

Please don't let my comments hold you up ! Mike

I gather there is some interest in the calendar. So I will give it a big think over the next few days (how you can enter the data, how I can process it efficiently...). I will keep you up to date as soon as I decide on the proceedings.

Might I suggest a Band name and Venue catagory.

"Concert" is pretty general.

For a wonderful example of the same sort of calendar, gohere.

It's pretty elaborate, but very thorough.

Yeah MG...Its really nice, but I too worry about your time. But if you want this its a helluva nice job you've done. Think on it and I know Max will hook it into the Quick Links for easy access.

Great job!!!

Mudguard,

A worthy undertaking and a great start.

Looking forward to the ins and outs of posting info for the calendar.

My wife and I have recently moved to Northern Cal's Gold Rush Country now and keep pinching ourselves to reassure ourselve that the musical bonanza we've fallen into here is real!

We saw Patrick Ball, Celtic harpist and shanachie extraordinaire last Saturday night in North San Juan, Rosalie Sorrels is playing tonight in Grass Valley and Peter Rowan will be playing on March 3. Coming up (but some still unscheduled as of this moment) are such luminaries as:

Clandestine ("Texas Celtic") - March 7

Ray Wylie Hubbard - March 8

Babatundi Olatunji and the Drums of Passion - March 12

Odetta

Dave van Ronk

Battlefield Band - April 22

Chris Hillman

Holy Modal Rounders

John McEuen and the String Wizards with Vasser Clements

John Renbourne

Jacquie McShee and Pentangle - May 3

Five Blind Boys of Alabama

Lindisfarne

You get the picture. Let us know when we can post all the pertinent info!

You need to have a "contact" slot, preferably with an email or website where this is available.

But with us spread around the world like we are, I'm not sure if a global listing like this makes total sense - what could be useful would be to have a way of clicking into a list of countries/regions which would lead to info and contacts for the country/region involved.

Well, I had my questions about it, because I figured it would be one of those things that gets neglected after three months. If Mudguard's doing it, it's in good hands. Go for it, Mudguard!

It's a great idea. Please do it! Though I agree you'd almost need to be able to click into a certain state, or province, or country!! Dirty Linen does a nice job of that. You can search by state or by artist. http://www.dirtynelson.com/linen/special/by-state.html

Ok, folks!
I think I have the scripts in a usable form by now.
But the URL has - as anticipated - changed. The Mudcat concert calendar is now at http://www.djh-freeweb.de/~andreas.waechter/MMCC/.
This page contains all the necessary info. Please read the complete page carefully before you send data or complain about anything!

First you threaten to bury me in data, and then there is not a single reaction for almost 19 hours after the Mudcat Concert Calendar went active.
Note: the URL is not the same as the demo version, it is now at http://www.djh-freeweb.de/~andreas.waechter/MMCC/

Well Mudguard, I said I liked the concept but am unlikely to be able to offer any events but if I do, I will most certainly take advantage of your facility and also will use it to check out what may be available in the UK.

One small point, I think the country/ state definitions are the wrong way round at the moment.

Thanks for all the hard work you have put into this and my feeling is that it will take off.
