Refreshing this request for rolsin...
do anybody know a site where to find MIDIs or sheet music for Italian songs ? This one is "Mamma" by Cesare Andrea Bixio. I shipwrecked some hours in the net, and no result.

More information please about Mama (Mamma)? Unfortunately the Web is dominated by offerings from the Spice Girls and Genesis with this word in the title. I've waded through a few thousand MIDIs but the composer, date of composition and a snippet of text would help a lot. Regards, John

BIXIO CESARE ANDREA This is quoted from Bixio's site www.Bixio.com . Mamma was composed in 1940. There are some other websites referring to Bixio (searching Altavista by the words Cesare Andrea Bixio) but no MIDI file. I think our friend rolsin will have to go to a classical music store and get the music sheet, it must be readily available because it is so popular. Unfortunately my old copy is gone someplace.

................. The composer and songwriter Cesare Andrea Bixio (1896-1978), early proved to be a very talented entrepreneur as well as a refined artist and founded the publishing Group that goes by his name back in the 20s. After scoring his first hits, among which the soundtrack of the first Italian talking movie, La Canzone dell'Amore, he worked intensely gathering around him a group of young talented artist which were to become the forefront of the renewal of the Italian song. Year after year, Gruppo Bixio has made its presence felt in the world of music with a repertoire ranging from the famous songs of the past to Italy's best known soundtracks, down to pop and Sanremo hits.

I didn't find the Bixio songs (at least, not yet), but if you follow that link the Guest provided and go back a few layers, you get lots and lots of Italian MIDI files - click here. Unfortunately, they're mostly insipid European pop - like an overdose of ABBA, Barry Manilow, and Neil Diamond.

I looked for a songbook of "standards" when I was in Rome in November, but didn't have any luck. I did find a couple of nice books of mountain folksongs and a book or military songs, but not the Italian tenor songs I was looking for. Anybody got a good suggerstion for a songbook available in the U.S.?-Joe Offer-

Hi, Andrés - does your book have any Bixio songs at all? I've found the same thing with some U.S. songwriters - their songs just aren't found in songbooks very ofter. Irving Berlin is a good example. He was one of the most prolific of the "great" U.S. songwriters of the last century, but his publisher seems to guard his works closely and they only rarely appear in songbooks and fakebooks.

No Joe, it's the same. No Bixio songs. Since Bixio's copyright holders formed an editing group, it seems that they are the only source (for me, it's a wrong policy..)
www.bixio.com is their site, and they sell the music sheets, but I'm an NCC rebel (No Credit Card).
