I've done it using

/D /C /D

but I've also be known to do

/D /C Em /D

Yes, just shift back and forth slowly between D and C and you will have it. I use an Am towards the end of the last couple of lines (like Paul's Em) just to keep from being too boring. yours, Peter T.

there's more to it than that I'm pretty sure.... Lemme think here.... I do it on my DADGAD in A, so it's capo'd 7th fret...
Starts on D position chord
My (G) young love said to (D) Me
My (C) mother won't (D) mind
And my (C) father won't (D) slight you
For (G) your lack of (D) kind
And she (C) steped away fom (D) me
And (G) this she did (D) say
It (G) will not be (D) long love
Till (C) our wedding (D) day

At least that's my 0.02...
