No kidding???!!!! I've always loved her voice ... I didn't even know she was still alive! By the way, who was the guy who replaced Pete Seeger in the Weavers? (I actually liked him a lot better)

Ginch, I'm sure Frank Hamilton can give you the accurate information but I believe Erik Darling replaced Pete and later Frank replaced either Erik or Fred Hellerman. I understood that when they finally broke up Ronnie concentrated on feminist politics and a women's theatre group. I agree about her voice, but then they all had great voices, individually and together.

Ginch, Erik Darling replaced Pete Seeger. 2000 has been a great one for me so far. I got to jam with Erik at the Folk Alliance in Cleveland, and I'm going to meet Ronnie next week. If that ain't enough to make my day I've gotten to meet Frank Hamilton (who replaced Erik) on Mudcat. I'm in "folkie hog heaven".

Thread Ronnie Gilbert and I shared a wonderful moment of intimacy in Coconut Grove in 1972. I'd love to contact her and say Hi! Got any clues how to reach her? gringo64@bellsouth.net

Rick,

Wasn't Bernie Krause in there somewhere? After Erik, before Frank, maybe circa 1963? Maybe after both of them? I know he did the Carnegie Hall reunion that year. Inquiring minds want to know...

I interviewed her early in my career when I was arts and entertainment writer for the Albuquerque Journal. She was one of the most gracious, inspiring interviews I've ever done. And what a voice. She's also one of my role models for, as Holly Near says, "just throwing back your head and letting that voice come out." Mary Travers also talked about what an inspiration Ronnie was when I interviewed her last year. Said she thought women folk singers had to be "reedy sopranos" until she heard Ronnie.

I wonder if the film that's being shown is "Wasn't that a Time?" Also one of my favorite documentaries.

Thanks WW....I too really liked the things she did with Holly Near and I recall well that statement about throwing back your head. I never look or listen to Mary Travers now without thinking of that.

So Rick.....Gonna' get her to sing with you? I hope something brings her to this area sometime soon. What an influence she's been. That Holly Near TV thing they filmed was excellent also.
