20 Mar 00 - 12:24 AM (#197918) Subject: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: WyoWoman Here's the lowdown on a new bluegrass festival that's going to go on in Douglas, Wyoming, on Labor Day weekend this year, the Laramie Peak Bluegrass Festival. I know the organizer, Steve Weih, and it ought to be a really nice event. This is being held a great time of year to be in Wyoming, too. WyoWoman ############################################## Festival will be held , Labor Day weekend, September 1, 2 and 3, 2000 at the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas. The festival will feature three regional Bluegrass bands, "Homestyle Bluegrass" from Montana, "Wing and A Prayer" from Grand Junction, Colorado, "Turtle Creek" from Nebraska and Wyoming, in addition to two nationally known bands, "The Grasshoppers" and " The Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show". The Grasshoppers have won the highly competitive 1999 Pizza Hut Bluegrass International Showdown. The Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show was nominated as one of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Emerging Artists of the year. Their traditional style of Bluegrass is reminiscent of the early pioneers of Bluegrass from the 1940s. The festival will offer three days of the best in bluegrass and entertainment for the entire family including food concessions and arts and crafts booths. The Fairgrounds has over 500 Recreational Vehicle spaces in addition to rough camping with permanent comfort and shower facilities. The Wyoming State Fairgrounds offers a convenient and relaxed environment to enjoy and listen to America's fastest growing form of music. Organizer Steve Weih has been the host of "Bluegrass Plus" on KVOC in Casper for several years and currently airs his weekly Bluegrass show on KKTY in Douglas and has been an avid Bluegrass fan for the past 25 years. 20 Mar 00 - 08:20 PM (#198343) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: GUEST,don@riskearnold.com If you've got Turtle Creek, you've got Steve Gilmore, one of the best singer/guitarists in the area. You should arrange a set by just him. He has been great at the Three Guitarist concerts the Cheyenne Guitar Society has been putting on. |
20 Mar 00 - 10:01 PM (#198396) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: katlaughing Don! Tell us more about the Cheyenne Guitar Society, please! Are you in Wyoming? Can we add one more Mudcatter to the Wyoming locale; wow, that would make a whole four of us! Oh, and welcome to the Mudcat! kat/katlaughing |
21 Mar 00 - 02:18 AM (#198510) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: BlueJay Hear, Hear, Kat/ Kat Laughing! I hope you find some more Wyoming Mudcatters. Maybe Don lives in the area. I myself, find it astounding that there are so few Colorado Mudcatters, I wish they would come foreward if there are more. Looks like a good event. Bookmarked, I hope I can attend. Any other Colorado 'cats, let's support our northern neighbor's music! |
21 Mar 00 - 06:40 AM (#198541) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: katlaughing Ah, BlueJay, thanks, you are living in my homeland, ya know? I am kind of surprised there aren't more 'Catters there, too, and suspect you are probably right in thinking Don might live in Colorado. Cheyenne seems more a part of it now, than Wyoming, in some ways. all the best, kat |
22 Mar 00 - 11:22 PM (#199650) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: Lonesome EJ No way, Kat. We're not taking Cheyenne unless you guys agree to take Pueblo. |
22 Mar 00 - 11:28 PM (#199658) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: Sorcha Well, we'd consider La Junta, but no way BOULDER. You guys have to keep it! heee heeee heee |
23 Mar 00 - 02:03 AM (#199749) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: WyoWoman Douglas is about two-1/2 hours from Laramie (right Kat? Sorcha?) and about 45 minutes from us here in Casper. Here in Wyoming, that's right next door. And I echo what Kat said. If I'm still here, the welcome mat is out. I even have a nice little house right on the river for those who'd like to sleep out under the stars. (The joy of Wyoming is very few bugs. A few mosquitos but nothing too daunting.) As I said, Steve knows bluegrass as well as anyone I know and he should put on a really nice festival, so y'all come on down (or up, or over)! WyoWoman |
23 Mar 00 - 02:23 AM (#199757) Subject: RE: Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming From: BlueJay WyoPeople: I'll trade you Pueblo for Rawlins anytime. We'll take your penetentiary, and you can have our looney bin and Sam's Club. |
