I just got an e-mail from a friend in Switzerland who says he can't find anyone to play Celtic music with. He plays hurdy-gurdy, guitar, whistle, bodhran and does some singing, but since he's been living in Switzerland he says it's "all lovely mountains and no music"! I figured if there's anyway to hook him up, the 'Catters can do it! Anybody know someone who's making Celtic noises in that part of the world? pj |

From the notes, it seems that it is based in my home town of Atlanta. Dave & I found Fado's Irish Pub several years ago on a visit to my parents, and that is where the 'sessioneers' seem to hold their meetings. In the words of Steven Wright, "It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it..." Kara, I didn't find any bug when I visited the site, but it did say to let the webmaster know if there were any access problems, so I e-mailed him that you had some difficulty. Hope you can check out the site sooner or later, it's very nicely done. Unfortunately though Peter, there's no reference to Switzerland. Does anyone at your session know the folks who were visiting? pj |

I just did a quick search with www.alltheweb.com (I stumbled on this a couple months ago thanks to mudcat and now I only use this search engine) and came up with a couple sites one is www.kora.harp.net which advertises some celtic harp workshop in switz. but if you email the instructors they might let you know about any sessions. also http://perso.club-internet.fr/d140557/IRL.html I havent figured out those blue clicky things yet. but this site lists sessions in belgium, switzerland and france. Also the comhaltas site or ceolas I cant remember has a list of sessions around the world although not necessarily up to date as sessions come and go and not all are listed. Cheers Petr.

In Switzerland as I understand it, you've got German bits, and Italian bits and Fench bits, and bits where they've got some fourth language called Romansch or sometimes. There has to be all minds of great Swiss music - you could be finding it and learning it and playing it.
I'm reminded of the story of the two men standing outside a church when the bells all started pealing out.
"Would you listen to that music!" says one.
"What did you say?" says the other.
"WOULD YOU LISTEN TO THAT MUSIC!" bellows the first one.
"I CAN'T HEAR IT - THOSE BLOODY BELLS MUST BE DROWNING IT OUT!"

If your friend is in Geneva ask him if they still have the pink bicycles......... There were (I can't remember exactly)a few dozen bikes (pink I think) owned by the city of Geneva, they were for everyone's use.. so if you found one.. you rode it to whereever you were going and left it, then someone else would find it and ride to where they were going... nice idea..... slainte alison |
