Hunger Alert: Ethiopia

Hello Catters

Not a music related subject I know but I have located a site where all regular catters can make a contribution to the problem of world hunger. With the news of the worsening situation in Ethiopia this would seem timely.

For those who are not with The Hunger Site these people use their commercial sponsorship to arrange staple food donations based on the number of visitors to their site. Each person visiting and clicking the Donate Free Food button is adding one more hit to the guestbook and sending staple foods to areas in need.

Please take the time to help if you can.

Hyp.

Not that I'm not into helping people, but...
Shouldn't we worry about the hungry and homeless in our own backyards first?
Just wond'ring aloud...

A fair point...

But I took the view if this site is essentially free... what's the harm in helping others.

Clinton, sadly you post EXACTLY as I'd expect you to. So why do you reckon we should concern ourself with those in our own back yard first? They're all God's creatures, aren't they? (I'm not sure of my belief in God, but I still support that sentiment.) And, for heaven's sake, what relevence does one have to the other? Is your "charity" so narrow?

In anger and despair,

G.

Actually, charity can start at home, first

Another thing to consider, besides sending Ethiopians (and other famine victims) food, is to teach them about birth control and effective crop maintenence!...if they can't feed their children, then there's not a lot of good reasons to bear them.

Both very valid observations - donations towards sustainable projects are usually the best thought out.

However, I do feel that one needs to be alive in order to learn.

They are burying 30-40 people a day in one camp in Ethopia at present. The one local aid agency on the ground suggests that if the situation continues for a few days longer that will reach the hundreds.

The best thing about The Hunger Siteis as far as I can determine it only costs you a couple of moments of your time...
