Does anybody have or know where I might find the lyrics to Kitty Bawn O'Brien, which I think was written by Allister MacGillivary, but not sure.

Ok, you've DONE it ! You've stumped me with an Irish song!!! (hard to do since I own over 10,000 of them on all recorded formats).

However, I am now digging and digging , and will not rest properly until I have succeeded in uncovering this ditty.

:)

I could have sworn Allister MacGillivary was Cape Breton Island Scots The Barra Macneills do a great job of Kitty Bawn O'Brien on their Rock in the Stream Album.

The only "Kitty Bawn" I can find is an old song by A P Graves, published 1889.Doesn't sound like the one requested.

I've got them, (liner notes). It's little tiny print so it will take a bit to type them. (I tried scan, e mail to me, copy/paste.......and it didn't work. I can "select all" and paste, but only the subj of the e mail works. Any suggestions other than typing?)

Sorcha,

Does your scanner software have OCR capability? If it does, try that route to scan the liner notes. You'll probably have to break out your magnifying glass to do a good proofreading job on it; but, depending on how fast a typist you are, it might be quicker that way.

All the best, Áine

KITTY BAWN O'BRIEN
(Allister MacGillivray)

Soft blow the winds both warm and sweet from the peaks called Knockmealdown.
The songbird pipes its cheery note Above Blackwater Sound,
But from my heart no joys depart; no beauty can enthrall.
My Kitty Bawn O'Brien's gone to far off Montreal.

I met her at the Mallow Fair where lovers sport and play.
I watched her feet move lightly while the piper droned away.
She sang a song so lilting there, her hands beneath her shawl.
Now Kitty Bawn O'Brien's gone to far off Montreal.

I followed her to Waterford the day the ship set sail.
Her mother let the teardrops fall. Her father's face was pale.
I kissed her ere I lost her there, and sorely I recall,
My Kitty Bawn O'Brien's gone to far off Montreal.

And far across the ocean wide, a world from Knockmealdown,
My Kitty shines like silver in some gold Canadian town.
She'll charm some young French soldier there; to blame him I've no call.
My Kitty Bawn O'Brien's gone to far off Montreal.

Sorcha has the lyrics right except Verse 4, line 4, should be "some bold Canadian town."
