Tonight at St. George's Anglican Church here in Halifax (Brunswick Street) will feature a great concert with the Aeolian Singers.

I just attended the dress rehearsal and the SONGS! What a group of songs, most of which were collected by Dr. Helen Creighton, throughout the Atlantic region.

April 8 2000 Aeolian Singers presents:

"Still the Song Lives On"

at St. George's Round Church, 8pm, Halifax, $12/$10

Janet Gaskin will conduct the Aeolian Singers, a 30-voice women's choir based in Halifax, in "Still the Song Lives On", a retrospective of the music by the noted folklorist Dr. Helen Creighton.

Special guests for the evening will be, folklorist and protégé of Dr.Creighton, Clary Croft, along with guitarist, Scott Macmillan Allison Roe-Smith on flute and cellist, Shimon Walt. Local composers and arrangers such as Alisdair MacLean, Alex Tilley, Gary Ewer and Scott Macmillan have arranged many of the selections to be performed.

Among the songs performed are

Braes of Belquither
Lost Jimmy Whelan
The Nova Scotia Song (CORRECT title for the song known as "Farewell to Nova Scotia")
Quaker Courtship
Hills and Glens
Blackbird (The Nova Scotia variant of the song. Chorus has "I'd FLY like a" rather than "I'd FLUTTER like a"

Lots of other songs besides these.
