With that spelling there probably aren't any.

Well, a search of our database for "madel*" came up with MADELINE SCHMIDT (click). Then there's Face Upon the Barroom Floor and Paddlin' Madelin' Home and this unnamed Breton song (click) (also here).

A song by Zachary Richard, or done by him at least, called Madeline. I think that spelling is correct.

OK, you guys, lets get a move on and write some lyrics for "Sones to Madiline". There could be something great here!

Don't forget Jacques Brel's song 'Madeleine'. It's part of "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris".

Joe, the "unnamed Breton song" is one I spend a loooong time searching for, but find it I did! It's called "Eh Change-tu" and Talitha MacKenzie does a bang up job on it! Complete with bombarde, funky bass guitar, sheep bells, and bleating!

From: simon-pierre

There's a campfire song that every kids knows (or used to know, before Sega and all that crap...). It's been a very long time since my last summer camp, so here's what all I remember.

Marie-Madeleine a un pied mariton
Un pied mariton! (response: Un pied mariton!)
Un pied mariton, Madeleine, un pied mariton, Madelon

Marie-Madeleine a une jambe de bois
Une jambe de bois! (response: une jambe de bois!)
Un pied mariton! (response: un pied mariton!)
Un pied mariton, Madeleine, un pied mariton, Madelon

Marie-Madeleine a un oeil de vitre
Un oeil de vitre! (response: un oeil de vitre!)
Une jambe de bois! (response: une jambe de bois!)
Un pied mariton! (response: un pied mariton!)
Un pied mariton, Madeleine, un pied mariton, Madelon

(... put every verse you want here, making this poor girl very, very ugly, following the same pattern.)

Last verse:

Marie-Madeleine est pas mal maganée...
Un oeil de vitre! (response)
Une jambe de bois! (response)
Un pied mariton! (response)
Un pied mariton Madeleine, un pied mariton, Madelon!

«maganée» is a québécois word that means «scrap» or «wreck». If someone pretends to know what does mean «mariton», he's undoubtly lying!

Simon-Pierre.

I found other verses at

http://www.momes.net/comptines/comptines-dire.html#mariton

quickly:

une cuisse de velours
un ventre d'acier
un cou en tuyau
une gueule de bois
une dent de ciment
un nez de plastic
un des oreilles en rubber
des cheveux de papier

well, it's enough... poor Marie-Madeleine...

Can't find any of them in the DT, but there are 'The Magdalen's Laundry', 'The Magdalene's Lament' and the 'Magdalen Green' wich is in Dundee. 'Magdalen' is pronounced 'Maudlin', so these songs fit your requirements. - Susanne

Jacques Brel wrote a song, "Madeleine," which was translated into English by Mort Shuman and was included in "Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris." I can't remember the words. If I find my Brel songbook I will post the French words, but the recording of the show is probably out on CD. (I have it on record but I am

Oops, that last word was supposed to be "turntable-less." And oops again, sorry, Jacob B, didn't see your post first time through.
