I don't have them at my fingertips, but I do have a version of this song done by Harry Connick, Jr. send me an email to remind me, and I'll listen through and post them to you.

Dear Coralena,

You might also check out Leon Redbone's version of this great oldie. It's on an early (his first?) album of his on Warner Bros. records and could probably be tracked down at a used record store. As I recall, the same album has his version of "Polly Wolly Doodle", too.

Good luck!

Here are the lyrics - I should have guessed it would be a Carmichael - Mercer collaboration. It's a great song. I transcribed it from a 1958 Kay Starr recording on RCA's "Hoagy Carmichael Songbook" CD.

LAZY BONES
Hoagy Carmichael - Johnny Mercer

Lazy Bones, sleepin' in the sun
How do you expect to get your day's work done?
Never get your day's work done
Sleepin' in the noonday sun.

Lazy Bones, sleepin' in the shade
How do you expect to get your corn meal made?
Never get your corn meal made
Sleepin' in the evenin' shade.

[bridge]
When taters need sprayin'
I'll bet you keep prayin'
The bugs fall off of the vine
And when you go fishin'
I'll bet you keep wishin'
The fish won't bite at your line.

Lazy Bones, loafin' through the day
How do you expect to make a dime that way?
Never make a dime that way
He never heard a word I say.

When taters need sprayin'
I'll bet you keep prayin'
That the bugs fall off of that vine
And when you go fishin'
I'll bet you keep wishin'
That the fish won't bite at your line.

Lazy Bones, loafin' through the day
How do you expect to make a dime that way?
Never make a dime that way
He never heard a word I say.

That recording was by Kay Starr, but my typing fingers aren't cooperating today. Hey, how does a person get a line feed around here nowadays? I usually type lyrics into MS Word and then paste into this little box here. How can I make it come out right?
-Joe, in search of another line-
Oh, and I'm still looking for the lyrics to Goin' Home. If somebody finds them, please post.
You come back two years later and fix 'em yerself!

Does anyone have the original chords for the bridge?

Years ago, I had an album with the old country music legend Hank Snow singing this song. Very nice, too.

Finding the chords to the bridge is difficult on line because the good versions want you to pay. Lots of 1st pages but the bridge is usually on page 2. The 1st published key appears to be C and I found this;

|Am/Dm/|Am/Dm/|C/Gdim/|C/C7/|
|F/Eb/|D7/G7/|D7///|G7///|

One beat for each chord and slash.

There is a version by Leon Redbone which he does in A which, transposed to C, goes;

|F/F6|C///|F9/Eb dim/|C///|
|C/B7/|Bb7/A7/|F9/Ab7/|G7///|

Hope this helps.
