Alison,

As soon as I saw this thread I thought it was probably you! I suspect you are after these words with malicious intent.

Cheers,
Alan (NOT over the hill)

Hi Alan

You're getting paranoid, (I would add "in your old age", but that would be mean so I won't.....Hee hee...)

It's actually the words to a love song.

OVER THE HILLS
words by Pete Seeger (1954)/ tune traditional Irish (The Foggy Dew)

Over the hills I went one day,
A dreaming of myself and you,
And the springtime of years since first we met
And all that we've been through.

May I not with delight still dream of the years
Of the summer and fall to be?
And the many many verses still to be sung
In the ballad of you and me.

From someone older than the lyrics but younger than the author

Hi

Thanks Rich.

Is this the only verse or are there others?

Alison, in the version that I have by Double Indemnity, there is a second verse, though I don't know if it's part of Pete Seeger's original..

Over the hills we have wandered in love
Linking arms against the stormy days
And the path with heart is the one that we chose
Learning ever of its gentler ways
May we gather together the stones for our home
In a field we have sown joyfully
And together we will live for the rest of our days
In wonder and harmony
In wonder and harmony

Good to have the option of another verse. Only the single verse is listed in "The Bells of Rhymney and Other Songs adn Stories from the singing of Pete Seeger" (1964) and the more recent "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?" also by Pete. His recordings only have that verse also, he extends the song by playing it on a recorder, tin whistle or something similar.

Rich, *shrugs* then I don't know where Double Indemnity dug up that other verse.. perhaps I should write and ask. :) Alison, you're welcome.. sing it in good health. :) Slan, Kiwi

For yet another, look in the database for [foggy dew]; the one listed as Irish 2 is much older than Seeger's, and older than the revolutionary Foggy Dew. John McCormack recorded it. 2 verses

that's an interesting version too, I went and looked it up yesterday.. is there a correlation between that one and the Pete Seeger version?
