08 May 00 - 12:37 PM (#224671) Subject: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: David Brannan Michael Nyman, the composer of the brilliant music for the soundtrack for Jane Campion's film "The Piano" says he used Scottish folk tunes for the basis of his compositions (since the character played by Holly Hunter in the film comes from Scotand). I eventually found out that the tune that most often recurs is "Gloomy Winter's Noo Awa" by Robert Tannahill. (See Wolfgang's message: http://www.mudcat.org/Detail.CFM?messages__Message_ID=105890) Does anyone recognize any other tunes in the soundtrack? |

08 May 00 - 05:46 PM (#224850) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: Peter T. I don't know anything about the music, but I would like to take this opportunity to say that this is my favourite movie ever. Why every movie Jane Campion has made since is crap is a total mystery to me. Jane, what are you doing????? yours, Peter T. |
08 May 00 - 05:50 PM (#224853) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: GUEST,Mbo_at_ECU Ducking flying objects here, but I'd have to say this is absolutely the most boring and pointless movie I've ever seen! Besides, I like when Sam Neil plays good guys! --Mbo (now all you Judge Mathis haters know how it feels!) |

08 May 00 - 06:17 PM (#224875) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: GUEST,Mbo_at_ECU Good one, McGrath! A new plotline is developing in my mind...instead of a Maori, I'm seeing a giant Pawky Duke-esque Scotsman...and instead of chopping her finger off, he cuts her bow hair with a machete.... --Mbo |

There was a thread a while ago, months, about this movie and its sound track. I'm blicky-challenged but if you search the forum this is the name of the former thread. Little girl's song from movie; The Piano?

Wiht SuperSearch back on, all you ahev to do is put Piano in the filter box, set the time to one year and hit go. It will come up. Still would like to know more. |
09 May 00 - 08:33 PM (#225542) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: sophocleese Kat, the message referred to in the original post does not come from the thread I mentioned, otherwise the question would make no sense. |
10 May 00 - 07:35 PM (#226108) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: David Brannan Thanks, everyone. Looking at the thread "Little girl's song from movie; The Piano?" did at least give me an idea of what the tunes might be. Lots of stuff, too, on who is better in the buff: Harvey Keitel or Holly Hunter. |
10 May 00 - 10:30 PM (#226182) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: sophocleese Harvey Keitel, at least from MY perspective... |
11 May 00 - 10:29 AM (#226396) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: Aodh I'v got the soundtrack and I'm shure I can detect a bit of fir a bhata. As far as other plotlines go, it wouldn't have worked with bagpipes? would it? |

11 May 00 - 02:30 PM (#226553) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: Peg her best? her worst? I am a Jane Campion fan for the most part and tend to prefer her early works (Sweetie, An Angel at My Table) but I did like Portrait of a Lady quite a lot... Hated Holy Smoke... |
11 May 00 - 04:29 PM (#226644) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: Kim C If I wanted to see a full monty of a man in the movies, it would NOT be Harvey Keitel. Plus I cannot stand the sound of Holly Hunter's squeaky little voice. We just rented it for the costuming. However, it did have a happy ending in a strange sort of way... the two misfits ended up together. And the music really was nice. Having listened to all the media hype about a "great love story" I was expecting something a little less hateful. |
11 May 00 - 04:32 PM (#226647) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: Peg yeah i am sick of looking at Harvey Keitel's naked ass, too...seems he shows it in every film he's in lately...he's a good actor, but I don't know why he insists on baring all so often...Ewan Macgregor, now... |
11 May 00 - 09:56 PM (#226834) Subject: RE: Jane Campion's 'The Piano' From: sophocleese Don't worry he doesn't show any ass in U-571. The movie would probably have been better though if there had been a skinny dipping scene. |
