BS: If You Were Stranded On Deserted Island

Subject: If You Were Stranded On Deserted Island
From: Little Neophyte

If you were stranded on a deserted island and you could pick one famous musician to be stuck there with, who would you pick?

I would pick Gordon Bok because he could tell me great stories at night when I was scared. When he finished teaching me everything he knew musically, and we became bored of being stuck on the island, he could build us a sailboat and I bet he would be my best bet to navigate us back to safety.

Any musician that could build a boat, find food, purify water, catch fish, make fire, build shelter, ect ect...

Music would be the least of my concerns... the first order of business would be survival... THEN I'd sing for myself!! LOL!!!

Probably David Lindley or Ry Cooder (or both) as long as they washed ashore with trunkloads of all those instruments they play so well.

If neither sexual gratification nor survival were to be considered as issues...Probably Norman Blake.

But there's all these interchangeable young lady "hot new Country" singers with the cute belly buttons....if I could persuade them not to sing much....

I would rather just have my Guild Jumbo 12 ~~ 8/10 and 7/10 ain't all that bad. After we got through making music I could always rig her with a sail and we would just sail over to the next island.

Elvis Costello, coz then he'd write a song about it and I'd have to be a character in the song. It would be about being shipwrecked, and how that's an analogy for our lives etc etc. And in the CD booklet, he'd tell a long and rambling story about our experience.

Also, we could sing duets. I sing a third above harmony in most of his songs when I listen to him, especially all the Coward Brothers songs!

At first I thought Jim Morrison, but then I remembered my ex, who bears a striking resemblance to Jim (which, although that was one of the things that first attracted me to him, would make a it a little weird to be with the real Jim), so I think I've narrowed it down to three:

Elvis Costello--Who is just amazingly talented and a wonderful singer.

Marilyn Manson--Who is amazingly intelligent, albeit a little odd. I mean, hey, the man's a genius. I'm sure he could think of a way to get us off the island, and if nothing else, we could have great conversation. . .

Ryan Kennebeck--A friend of mine, and lead singer and guitarist of the Christian punk band Eightbit. He's good at EVERYTHING (except math), so he's someone else who might be good to have around on a desert island.

Honestly, I think I would Elvis Costello, though. I LOVE his music. . .

Peace--Keli

Oh dear....if I were thinking realistically? Any folk musician. Enough hot air and you can just float your way to safety....

But for sheer 'stuck-on-an-islandness' John McCusker....dreamy....

I think if Callie, Keli and I ever end up on the same ship, Elvis Costello should be really worried.

If they have to be famous, and if I can't have Elvis... probably Chris Izaak. Who cares what his music's like!

Marylin Manson would die of sun-poisoning if he had to spend more than an hour a day outside. Maybe that would be his motivation for getting off of the island.

I know she's a dancer, but I would pick Jean Butler. I know she can't do much step-dancing in the sand, but I doubt I'd be worried much about step dancing. Like 'Spaw intimated: I may not live long, but I'd die happy.

As far as musicians go, I'd probably pick Nancy Griffith because she's got the voice of an angel.

Alison, I'm sure you know that you just CRUSHED Big Mick and I ache for him 'cause I taught him everything he knows about women.

I realize Spaw already has "dibs" on Emmy Lou Harris, so at the risk of being stamped a "dirty old man," I'd choose Martina McBride. Even if Spaw relented and released his pick, I'd still be thought of as the dirty old man of course. Doesn't bother me a bit!

I would want someone who would play with me not just too me,
I'm sure the novelty would wear off just listning after a while.
And as far as taking an imposter along, I am sure the aged Sean, would die grinning in his sleep after a week or so(Dirty lucky bastard) and then there would only be lonelyness......and the God forsaken pipes.
I can readily think of many I could do WITHOUT.
Perhaps a Womble would be good.
If I got sick of listening, at least I could cook and eat one of the things.
Just makes my mouth water (another chorus? Na! but a womble stew will do just fine,MMmmmm!)

Hey Chicky, nothing wrong with Chris Isaak's music! Although he'd not be my choice...

"Michael" sounds the best bet, cos he can row the boat ashore when the ship goes down. And it sounds like he's got his whole family with him, so there's food for a bit! :-)

Incidentally, has anyone ever wondered why sister's trimming the sails, if Michael's already rowing? Or why, if there's enough wind to fill a sail, Michael's still paddling away?

Wow. That's a great quote -- and a great thought. But I think if I were to share an island with Leonard Cohen, I'd end up drowning myself in the surf in despair over the sheer dreariness of existence. Give me a peppy six inches any day...

Thanks, Peter T. Yup, I'm back, I'm bad and I'm ready to rumble. Trying to work at home, however, so I have to discipline myself to only check out the 'Cat for a few minutes, then back to the salt mines.

Have had some lovely musical adventures of late and am looking forward to more, although in the move I got sidetracked and have quit learning new songs. But I need to practice a few before the Allan C. and Bill Sables Memorial World Domination Tour comes to Colorado. I'd hate to be consulting my lyric sheet in such august company.

Imagine yourself getting a warm oil massage from head to foot with candlelight and soft music and...oops..sorry, you did ask me to effuse. Oh yeah, Kate Rusby. She is an English singer of mostly traditional English folksongs, and has been known to convert even hard rock fans to her music. Her voice and very moving interpretation of medieval songs is mesmerizing. The backup instrumental arrangements she uses are very tasteful and blend in perfectly. That she is beautiful doesn't hurt her desert island status, either. Check out her 1st solo CD, "Hourglass." It's a treasure.

I have given this thing some further thought.
AND I have been browsing through the threads, and It occurred to me that some people are treating this thing SERIOUSLY?
The question asked by Banjo Bonnie was "what famous musician would you like to be stranded with"
On an island with a population of 2 (thats two).
Just how famous is this muso gonna' be?
"Oh, you again, yes I have heard your song, got anything new?"
"Put that away! I said I'm not like that, and I'd much prefer a melon thank you."
I am not so sure that I need the challenge of spending time with this famous musician, BUT!

As I have gently parted the threads, to perve on your countless verbal meanderings,It occurs to me I could do a lot worse than takeing a few of you along.
Sorry boys I want only the ladies as company therefore you lot will be stuck on the mainland oogling your Emmy Loos, Eartha Kits and such,I will be surrounded by sweet and lovely ladies, longing to save, or be saved.
Just gotta hope I am there type.
So hard to choose?

Why Spider Tom, that was really thoughtful of you. And you know, the most important thing about being stranded with someone on a deserted island is that you are with a person who has your best interest at heart.
Being stranded with you, I bet I would feel pretty safe and well looked after.

Bonnie

I have heard that Bach's music can be played beatifully on the accordion. He can bring his organ, and I'll bring my box.

Sounds like a good combination to me.

(You just said that just to set me up to say this, didn't you?)

If Spaw won't share Emmylou, then I'll take Joan Baez. Another beautiful gray fox with an angelic voice and 40 years worth of songs to sing to me.

Carol C - did you just come from the double entendre thread? There's a song in there somewhere!

I can't pick one person. Well, I could, but I think I'd probably drive someone crazy and they'd wind up whacking me on the head with a blunt object such as a coconut. If I picked a group, some people would inevitably get irritated at other people, and we'd have even more coconut-whacking. Also, most of the individuals would have lives back in the world, and would resent me having fantacised them onto a desert island, and I'd wind up being group-coconutted. I hate it when reality gets in the way of a good fantasy!
