I've talked to the landlady of the Red Lion, and she's prepared to accommodate people at a cheap rate, there are other places people can stay, including our house if you don't mind dogs and cats. Food isn't a problem, I can cook. And we can hang out at the Red most of the time.I can pick people up from Welshpool station if needed. How about it, anyone interested? Hwyl, Bron. |

There's an interesting canal museum for those interested in narrowboats. As I spent four years in various parts of Wales I can attest to the natives' tolerance of saesnegg! They do bed and breakfast at reasonable rates, and are expecting your call. They also have a caravan where people with sleeping bags can crash for a nominal fee. From: Llanfair The date of the "gathering" is the weekend of the 14th and 15th of October, although I expect people will want to arrive on the Friday night, which will be our music night. In Llanfair Caereinion (clicky thing earlier in this thread) the main musicians are Simon, who plays and sings blues, David and Jo who are fiddlers and Ian who plays electric and accoustic guitar. I play guitar and sing, being around during the folk revival, and Jim, my husband, plays bass. He likes folk/rock, but, if he has too much strong ale, reverts to his rock roots, and all hell breaks loose!! Anyone is welcome, musicians and listeners. The Red Lion is not a large pub, but we all manage to squeeze into the lounge somehow. It's very cosy. Eric, there are 2 numbers inthe thread for B&B, and places to sleep if money's a problem. There are three pubs here, the Black Lion where the noisy people go to watch football on the widescreen, the Goat, which is next door but one from me, where everyone looks at you when you walk in, and the Red Lion, where the gathering is to be based. It's only small, but we'll manage. The Goat has B&B, but I haven't asked them yet, because their rooms are more expensive. Food will be available at Pippins cafe, they are very reasonable, and there is a chipshop. The Red does meals as well, and we are thinking, weather permitting, of having a barbie on the Saturday night, leaving the fire hot enough to cook breakfast Sunday morning. The weather? well, we can have frost in early September, but very cold weather is not usually till after christmas. We are quite high up, and the town is surrounded by hills, which protect it a bit. TV and radio reception is lousy!! The area is beautiful in the autumn, and there are some lovely walks. The Centre for alternative Technology is 30 miles away, and if enough people want to go, I can arrange transport. There is no shortage of beer. The Red has Boddingtons and usually a guest beer. There's a stage, and it might encourage the locals to pop in for a listen. It is an "Arts and Crafts" peroid building, with a high, raftered ceiling. I'm sure one of them will collect you from Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted (McGraph?)whichever you fly into. As for accommodation, if you are prepared to rough it with a sleeping bag, there will be many others (like me) who are doing the same. It'd be grand to meet you, so I do hope you can make it. So if it is , that'd be the logical place for people to meeet. Otherwise I suppose lurcing into The Anchor or the Sailing Club and bellowing "Is there a Mudcat in the house?" might work. But I don't fancy doing that.
So far as Wales goes, I've every hope of being able to get there. but won't know for sure until much closer. So ideally I want to turn up with my sleeping bag, beer, and an instrument or so, and not have to camp outdoors unless there is unseasonally pleasant weather. |

I go to the sessions at The Miners Arms, Priestweston, on the first Wednesday of the month, The Cock at Brockton on the third Wednesday of the month and The Six Bells in BC on Friday every three weeks (although that has just started a summer recess). There are also sessions this Saturday in Church Stretton - afternoon in The Kings Arms and evening at The Green Dragon. See you? |
