best thing about folk music festivals

the best thing about folk music festivals used to be the sex. back in the seventies, it was so easy getting laid. but now when i go, all the women my age are attached to a guy and most of the younger ones are lesbians. and how come there are so many lesbians, but hardly any gay guys at folk music festivals? what's the deal with that?

You see lesbians at folk festivals because feminist values are reflected in the songs of many folksingers. There are many great lesbian folksingers. Ferron, Holly Near, Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, to name a few.

Gay men are into show tunes, Cher and Bette Midler.

I've often, on various threads, seen reference to people singing 'camp songs' so there must be a lot of it going on out there !!

Honestly, Dickie must have gone to different types of folk festivals than I did. Either that, or I was unaware of what happened inside cold, rain-soaked tents pitched 2 feet away from other cold, rain-soaked tents.

The best thing about folk festivals for me is the wanton jamming. All those musicians gathered in one place. I'm very promiscuous when it comes to singing/playing and often skip the daytime concerts/workshops in favor of flitting around looking for the next group of musicians to get it on with.

On the Bluegrass list this morning, someone made the point that it is absolutely essential, at a festival, to make sure that you eat something from each of the five major food groups each day:

Sugar, Salt, Grease, Chocolate, and Alcohol.

I realize folk festivals have a lot more poor, misguided, wispy, half-starved health food enthusiasts than BG festivals do, but they should not be taken as good examples of how to act, IMO.
