Thought for the day 14th June 2000

The recent attack on Mudcat by a corporation reminded me of a favourite saying of my Mum attributable to John Dunne? "For evil to succeed it only takes for a good man to do nothing." It is so easy to say "it dosen't involve me so I will stay quiet, perhaps when it does there will be noone left to defend you.

Brimgs to mind so many things in recent days. For example the attacks in Central Park. Is it becoming part of our human nature to sit back and wait for someone else to make a stand??? I certainly hope not KGH

WORSE YET KENDALL, WHEN DID THE POLICE DEPARTMENT DECIDE THAT A PURSE SNATCHING IS IMPORTANT BUT THE STRIPPING AND MOLESTING OF INNOCENT WOMEN CAN BE REFERRED TO A COMPLAINT DESK?

AND ONCE AGAIN, OUR "BELOVED" MAYOR PUTS HIS FOOT IN HIS MOUTH, DOWNPLAYING THE WHOLE INCIDENT AS ALMOST A "PRANK" UNTIL THE MEDIA PLASTERED VIDEOS AND PICTURES OF WOMEN UNDER ATTACK. NOW HE IS OUTRAGED.

HE WAS DISTRACTED BY HIS FRUSTRATED ATTEMPTS TO MEET PRIVATELY WITH THE FAMILY OF THE DEAD MAN MURDERED BY POLICE IN A DRUG ENTRAPMENT SCENARIO GONE BAD WHOSE SEALED CRIMINAL RECORD WAS ILLEGALLY MADE PUBLIC BY HIM IN ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO DOWNPLAY AN UGLY INCIDENT.

THE REAL SHAME IS THAT 99.9% OF THE POLICE OFFICERS IN NEW YORK CITY PUT THEIR LIVES IN DANGER EVERY DAY TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE OF OUR CITY AND DO A GREAT JOB. GIULIANI'S NEED TO COVER HIS ASS HAS SEVERELY DAMAGED THEIR MORALE AND ABILITY TO PERFORM THEIR JOB.

Sorry Megan. To put this back on track:

Today we live with an AIDS epidemic which appeared in the gay population and poor villages in Africa but was ignored too long until it hit the middle class America. Will we ever learn?

Don't apologize Sins.......Just shows how far we HAVE NOT come in our attitudes toward women doesn't it? Not to mention our attitude toward being humane human beings. That was simply appalling.

Sinsull, My niece is in Africa right now, working in a school in Botswana..We have no idea how bad the Aids problem is over there..In her town alone there are over 5,000 orphans whose parents are dead because of Aids, and almost all of the children are HIV positive. Hava ( my niece) has been so touched by this that she spends her off time from teaching visiting those kids and just loving them as best she can..There is such a need ...Yet here we sit. KGH
