Mudcat Adventure Photos

I took one photo with the digital camera when Bill and Allan arrived. The rest are on film. Here is a page with the picture of the daring duo shortly after emerging from their car at my house. New Orleans ties were still around their necks. We soon departed for Jardine and the night of music, Bill's smoke breaks in Grizzly country, bison grazing by the road, and footbridge over the roaring high water creek.

Just lovely, Alice. I did get a couple of digitals which turned out okay, of them playing individually. The rest of mine have to be developed the old-fashioned way, too. Thanks a bunch,

I have several digital photos of the guys as they visited OK. I'd love to share them with all. My favorite is one I've entitled "An Englishman at Tea in the Garden of Herbs". Do we have a central depository?

Sam and those at the Jug, Bill described the Jug to me by comparing a corner of my living/diningroom/kitchen (I have one big space) and a low ceiling with jugs hanging down. I didn't realize there were so many of you on Mudcat. He went down the list of all the Mudcatters he met and named those from the Jug. Bill and Allan, as you can see, were standing in the lush green of a wet Montana spring. It is still early for gardens here. My poppies, columbines, lupines, and daisies are blooming, but most of the flowers are still growing. The apricot tree that grows on the wall by my front door has small green fruit. Bill would take smoke breaks on the deck with my Samoyed (he called the polar bear dog) or out front where this photo was taken. While at Wayne's house in the woods, Bill would be out in the darkness with a smoke, wondering if a Grizzly bear would appear at his shoulder. They are having a great time.

Thanks for the photos. I also have some that I took in Trinidad. I believe that Max is planning to put a page in the Mudcat Resources with pictures of the Great Adventure. Keep the photos coming, Mudcats.

I just picked up the prints and they are great, guys. I will scan later this evening. Bill and Allan, I have two sets of photos, so I will send them to Max in a box with Allan's travel coffee mug - it should be there when you arrive at Mudcatville on Wednesday.

Thanks for posting the pictures, Alice. They are super and Montana looks very inviting! It's a beautiful state. It looks particularly good since it was about 112 degrees in Phoenix today.

SINSULL, have you not heard that joke about the Forest Service warning for hikers in bear country?... watch out for bear doo-doo with tiny bells in it.

Bill may have shared this story from Wayne's house, where the bear crossing sign is. Before we arrived, there was a grizzy coming down and eating from the dog food dish by their front door. Wayne's wife opened the door and sprayed the bear with bear pepper-spray to scare him off. The griz went into the trees for awhile, then came back for more dog food. The bears around here are the top of the food chain. They are fearless.

Alice, I heard a thing on NPR, last year, or read it in the paper, that they did an experiment with that bear spray. Put a whole bunch of it near a watering place on a creek. The bears gathered around and literally rolled in it, acting as cats do with catnip. This is the repellent they tell folks to spray on their kids, etc. Apparently, they've decided it doesn't do much maybe attract them!
