24 Sep 97 - 08:51 PM (#13095) Subject: RE: DAVE VAN RONK From: dwditty I have a fairly extensive collection of Van Ronk recordings - from blues to folk to irish to children, books, tapes, etc. Compared to his total recorded output, his original songs are only a small percentage. Two points I would make, though: 1. Those original songs are really something; 2. Van Ronk is 100% original. One of my favorite quotes of his is, "I can tell a lie, but I can't sing one." Perhaps his greatest talent is in delivering his music from the heart in an absolutely honest manner. |
