23 Jul 97 - 08:06 PM (#9418) Subject: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Max D. Spiegel Oh, boy. We have developed a new prototype to search the forum in more depth. You can now search the bodies of the messages as well as the Subject line and by who posted it. Sorry about those who refuse to put in a name, there is nothing we can do about that. Anyway, you can try it out at http://www.onstagemedia.com/mudcat/forumsearch.cfm. Please try it out and let me know here what you think. Please be gentle, it is a prototype. |
23 Jul 97 - 09:16 PM (#9422) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Alice OK, Max, being concerned about privacy, I decided to search my own name, and now I am convinced that I really am spending too much time (addicted) on the Mudcat site. Alice |
23 Jul 97 - 10:11 PM (#9428) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Joe Offer Hi, Max - I tried the 'body" search with several different words, and it didn't seem to work. It came up with scads of hits, no noe of which contained the word I wanted. Either I'm doing something wrong, or the body search has a bug in it. This is my 3rd attempt at typing this - something keeps kicking me back to the forum thread index before I've finished typing. -Joe Offer- |
24 Jul 97 - 02:15 AM (#9451) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Joe Offer Well, I tried this new stuff at 7 PM Pacific time and had problems, lots of them. I kept getting switched back to the forum menu, and couldn't post and couldn't finishe reading threads. I quit in disgust, figuring I would be deprived of my digitrad fix for the day. Tried again at 11 PM Pacific and everything was hunky-dory. OK, everybody, join in the chorus: "GREAT JOB, MAX!!!!"If you're in the Eastern time zone, you're really burning the midnight oil. -Joe Offer- |
24 Jul 97 - 11:23 AM (#9474) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Max Spiegel Yep, I was up till the wee hours of the morning tightening the screws on the new search. Added the date search, and debugged a couple of things. If it was acting funny last night, it was cause I was working on it. Things should be cool now, but this'll never end so keep the comments coming, and I'll keep pluggin.

24 Jul 97 - 01:26 PM (#9492) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Alice Max, this is a great new search tool. Should help cut down on repeated questions that have already been answered. I just used it to check what you had posted regarding copyright and the posting of lyrics (which is so much of what we all seem to want to do here) and it was very helpful to read your statement. I do still have some reservations about posting lyrics that may cause you to be sued by a publisher. Thanks for this new search method. Alice |
24 Jul 97 - 01:33 PM (#9494) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Seamrog Well, I just complained so much about the new "upside-down way", but the new body-search is really a wonderful and helpful improvement. I checked it out the last hour and found a lot of interesting stuff I otherwise would have missed ! Slain ! |
24 Jul 97 - 09:54 PM (#9539) Subject: RE: New search engine From: Ferrara Max, the new search capability is fantastic. The idea that you wrote this entire dialog system (Mudcat and all its works) is staggering. It's a marvel. By the way - I thought the subject had to be the thread title. I didn't realize you could replace the default subject with a different one until I saw that you can select by subject as well as thread title in the new search. Making more use of the subject line might help people sort through long threads. |
25 Aug 97 - 10:21 AM (#11171) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Alan of Australia The link to the body search has disappeared from the top of the page. I have solved the problem for me by clicking on The Body Search to get there and then bookmarking it. Cheers, |
25 Sep 97 - 06:55 PM (#13206) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Nonie Rider I'm deeply disappointed with this thread, guys. I'm new here, and searching threads for the first time, and I was really looking forward to reading the lyrics of any song titled "Holy Cow, Now You Can Search the Bodies"! |
25 Sep 97 - 06:58 PM (#13207) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Joe Offer Careful Nonie. Our resident songwriters, especially Alan of Australia, have been known to take a statement like that as a dare. Are you sure you want to hear a song about searching bodies? -Joe Offer- |
26 Sep 97 - 01:19 PM (#13246) Subject: RE: Holy Cow, Now you can search the Bodies From: Nonie Rider Sure. And especially if he can work a holy cow into it! Me, I'm envious. I don't think I've sproinged lyrics fully armed from my brain for about two decades, with the exception of one feeble attempt on "Parcel Of Rogues" about the news item that bagpipes are technically still classified as a weapon of war. I mean, I could pop out a line like "Mine eyes have searched the bodies of the holiest of cows," and come up with the odd rhyme or two, but I couldn't make a song that would stand on its own out of it. |
