While things are quiet this afternoon, let's see if I can do this,

or maybe this.

Whippoorwill,
Thanks for that, our posts can now be much more colourful. I'll experiment offline to see what other colours we can get.

Cheers,
Alan

Whip.. how did you change the point size on the font for the word "this"?

Hi, Alice, I think what he did was typed
font size equals seven
using the equals sign and the number seven, and enclosing them in brackets.
Of course, if we uninitiates* do it, we may make a mess of it. Be sure you know how to turn the effects off before you send the message.
Hope I did it right.
-Joe Offer-
Did I see somebody refer to "uninitiates" as "nubiles"???

Thanks. (That was a lovely malapropism from our blushing Belfast lady, typing "nubile" rather than "newbie".) What are effects and where do you turn them off? Alice

The main thing is don't overuse or misuse HTML or people will grow tired of it in a hurry, and you will wake up one morning and find that it has all been taken away. When I first discovered HTML, I wanted to use every trick that there was, which pretty much obscured what I was trying to say. Now I mostly just use plain old black on white for practically everything. And of course, whatever you do, remember to close your effects properly, or nasty things will happen! In a chat room, your mistakes (and mine) are fleeting~~here for the moment, and gone in a little while. Mistakes we make here will linger so long that everyone will be sick of seeing them!

Sorry I did not see (and answer) your question about effects, Alice. In my previous post, I used several totally unnecessary effects, in order, bold, underline, big, italic, blink, and color=red.

Go to the thread entitled Basic HTML commands for dummies to learn more about this sort of thing. Note that I used the bold effect to good advantage there, and turned it off properly!

Morning, all.

Just go here, and you'll know all I know.

Oops!
Try that again, here, he said with a rueful grin.

I told you I was a dummy.

If this is not right, I'm going back to bed and turn the electric blanket up to womb temperature.

Thanks Whip, I got there, but I'm going to have to return there when my brain is in refreshed-mode. Deep....deep....

Sorry it took three strikes to get a hit. I think I'm suffering from old-timer's disease.

Oh my God what did we start a few weeks back :-)

If you what to see how a particular HTML effect is achieved, see if your browser will let you look at the "Page Source" - this shows you the ASCII version of the page, and in my case, using Netscape Communicator, all the HTML is nicely rendered in various colours.

Rick.
