Lyr Req: Lighthouse keeper's daughter

Last summer, someone sang to me a wonderfully funny song. Can't remember the title, but it told the story of some shipwrecked sailors calling frantically for help while the brave and stouthearted lighthouse-keeper's daughter rowed out and rescued them.

"But she had an English heart, and she knew how to handle a boat... Help! Help! came the desperate cry; they were still afloat." That's the only bit I actually remember.

Well, Kimmers, Grace Darling (click) fits part of your specifications, but I wouldn't call it a funny song...
I hope we find this one - lighthouses are a hobby for me.

Nope - it's the other Grace Darling song, the one recorded by the Limeliters - Click here.

The limelighters did make it funny - the cries for help were encouraged from the audience, and there was a play of humor on her father thinking her crazy to go out...

But actually, he never discouraged her and went out with her readily. Grace's life was ruined by the incident because the public held her up to be a great heroine, and they wouldn't let it rest. Same as nowadays when someone does a good deed.

There's another lighthouse keeper's daughter Ida Lewis who was similarly lionized for her having saved many lives. President Grant visited her and the government gave her a pension.

Well, there's more than you wanted to know!! Margo
