01 Sep 00 - 07:51 PM (#289605) Subject: RE: Harry Smith/ Bob Dylan programme on soon From: Bill Hahn//\\ It is certainly an eclectic collection of great interest. As to the comment regarding it and/or Smith inspiring Dylan; I do sincerely doubt that. Except in the sense that he might have owned a few of the recordings that Smith made. Smith, as many of you probably know, was a film-maker, collector of recordings, and quite an eccentric. The Smithsonian set is of great interest, especially the written material that goes with it---and, one of the CDs is a CD Rom (I hope I have used the right term) which you can put into your computer and watch Harry Smith getting an award. 06 Sep 00 - 09:33 AM (#292038) Subject: RE: Harry Smith/ Bob Dylan programme on soon From: Easy Rider Harry Smith's Anthology was the most influential source for all of us who were just discovering Folk Music and Blues, back in the middle sixties. Everybody, in Folk Music, was listening to it back then. I have a set of the original LPs, and I highly reccommend you buy the new CD reissue, if you haven't heard it. You will be amazed. |

07 Sep 00 - 12:05 PM (#292859) Subject: RE: Harry Smith/ Bob Dylan programme on soon From: Llanfair I shifted my whole day around so that I could listen in peace without interruption from the Aged P's, and , blow me, TWO people came to the door, with all the dog barking and stuff that goes with it. I hope it's being repeated so I can listen to the bits I missed. He sounds like a very eccentric person, this Harry Smith, and nowadays he would probably be diagnosed as having Asperger syndrome, putting him in the same league as Patrick Moore, and Albert Einstein. Wonderful. Bron. |
07 Sep 00 - 01:20 PM (#292909) Subject: RE: Harry Smith/ Bob Dylan programme on soon From: The Shambles Not too much music but it was only on for 30mins. Nice bit of gossip though. When Bob Dylan called at Allen Ginsberg's to met him. Harry Smith would not be persuded to get out of bed to meet him.
I liked the sound of him (well some of it). He just did it.....Glad he did. I had the same problem with interruptions but I did record it. I can make and send some copies if you send me a PM. |
