Embroidered Mudcat Patches

04 Sep 00 - 07:13 PM (#291010)
Subject: Embroidered Mudcat Patches
From: Susan of DT

We have the opportunity to order embroidered mudcat patches. This would be the mudcat jumping in the banjo on a 3" round patch that you can sew onto a cap, jacket, shirt, instrument case, etc. They would sell for something like $5-7. We can only have these made up once a year. The question is should we order 50 or 100 to start. We would like some idea of how popular these would be. We are not asking for definate orders, but you can put in a reservation if you like. You can PM or e-mail me or Dick (susan@digitrad.org or dick@digitrad.org)

uh....guys.....Like Susan never mentioned stickers. Although its probably a good idea (as are the hats we have never decided on), right now she's just talking patches. I'll take two....too.

Susan, there shouldn't be any doubt that if the sticker thing comes up, they'll go like hotcakes!

Susan never mentioned stickers, true. But she mentioned putting whatever she was hawking on instrument cases, and that reads as "sticker," since most instrument cases can't have a patch sewn on.

I'll definitely order a patch, and maybe two.

And while people are suggestng things, I've always thought Temporary Tatoos would be fun. If someone would only invent a way to print small quantities of Temp Tats on a computer they could replace stamps and wrist bands at concerts. We could wear them to the Getaway!

Two patches, please. Would love stickers and I don't see why we couldn't print them up on a computer. They've got the right kind of paper, I've even got some of the decal paper, so that you would put a sticker on the inside of your car window.

If you'd like I could do some trial runs and see what ya'll (Dick and Susan and Max) think, then could run some off. Would only need to cover the cost of the paper and print catridges.

Thanks, Susan,

kat

Susan,
I've counted 37 up to here. I'd take 2 or 3. Stickers would be nice, too. I'm sure there are plenty of folks who haven't seen this thread yet who'd want some. Besides they won't go out of date, like a calendar would. Also, the price probably goes down when the quantity goes up, yes? I say go for a 100 or 150. I'm sure they'll go. Great idea. Are you thinking of getting them from the lady we saw at Champlain Valley? If so, they'd be really nice folks. Any chance we could get them for the Getaway? Probably not, right?

Go for it!!!

Well I've got the badge and the T-so a patch and a sticker or so wouldn't go amiss. How will they get to the U.K? And paying for them? You could always ask Bill Sables as he is the uk distributer of t shirts (not that I am speaking for him)-just a thought or who ever is coming over for the UK gathering in October could bring several hundred and sell them there. Whatever. Cheers. Eric

Jeeez...you give this crowd an inch...You'd think they'd be happy with patches, but now they want stickers and who knows what else. Next thing you know, it'll be those flexable rubber magnets. And they'll want small ones for their refrigerators and large ones for their car doors (actually, I'd kind of...nevermind). Seriously, I'd like a patch, please. And remember to figure in the shipping costs; I'd hate to have you lose money as well as time on this. For it is written that neat little projects that should be no big deal always end up more time-consuming and complicated than you thought they would.

Subject: RE: Embroidered Mudcat Patches
From: Helen

seed, I'd need a couple for my harp cases too, but they are probably bigger than yours (BG).

Susan, I don't think 100 would be enough, judging by this thread, but then again - will people who say they want them actually want them when they are available, so the quantity calculations are a risk, but like the T-shirts, you could sell them all year. I'd like to see the website address on them.

When some of the Oz'Cats met at a festival this year we used a small laminated plastic card which we could pin to clothing, hats, bags etc and it was really good having an easy identifier. Patches (and stickers) would also be great, and more durable.

re: tattoos - I'm sure I saw some do-it-yourself tattoo printing "paper" at the office supplies store, for inkjet printers. I don't know how durable they would be, though.

Anyway, if you guys were really committed to Mudcat you would show your commitment by getting a *real* tattoo - no pain, no gain etc (sorry, sorry!)

Helen

Subject: RE: Embroidered Mudcat Patches
From: Susan of DT

It looks like a hit. We'll have to look into the stickers - the right paper and the right ink produced on a computr or sent to real printers to produce a big batch.

the object of these patches is that we DON"T have to order hats, etc, because you can sew/glue these where you want them.

dick tried some window decals last year that did not hold up well. does anyone have ideas for lasting window decals?

dwditty also had a good idea of card sized handouts with the web address and some info to hand out to people. dick and I do this sort of thing, but they have our names and e-mails on them. we could print up several hundred generic ones if there is interest.

yes, Karen, we spoke to the embroidery people at the Champlain festival - I have been buying their t-shirts for years (wait until you see what I am having them do for me). They go to Asia in December to have the embroidery done and come back in the spring - thus the once a year orders.

I will keep a list and let you all know when they are available in the spring. Bill Sables will handle the UK orders, when they are available. Have we someone who wants to be the Australian contact point?

For stickers to be given out as gifts, it would nice to have the web address printed on them. I'd go for some of them, too.

(When I read the title to this thread, I envisioned a mudcat auction item - a quilt, assembled of pieces embroidered/quilted by various mudcatters, and all sewed up into one big, decorative quilt. Might be a lucrative fundraiser for the 'cat, thought I'm no quilter.)

That's 90 patch requests so far (including PMs) so I guess we order around 200, or at least 150. They should be available in the spring. If anyone has a good source for producing stickers (are we talking about opaque or transparent??), let us know. Running them off on a computer would be a nuisance, so printing them would be much better.

We will have someone in England and in Australia distributing the tee shirts, buttons, and patches, etc. to help the postage and payment problems. Bill Sables is set up in England to sell tee shirts and I think buttons, and will soon be able to accept checks made out to "Mudcat Cafe". We are just in the talking stages with Helen in Australia.

If you want to put the logo on white tees, mugs, and mousepads, you could set up a store at www.cafepress.com. They take the orders online, apply your art as a transfer, and ship internationally - you don't have to deal with printing or any money up front. They pay you the mark-up amount on each item that is sold from your online cafepress store. No money invested on Mudcat's part. White shirts available only, but you can print on the back and front at no extra charge
I'll set it up for you, if you want me to. Here's my cafepress store as an example:

Well, they're finally here. Embroidered Mudcat patches. Three inch diameter, with the fish jumping out of the banjo. Five bucks.

At the moment, the only way to get them is by mail: send a check for $5 made out to The Digital Tradition, and a stamped self-addressed envelope. A 34 cent stamp will do for up to three of them.

For WyoWoman and others who may have missed the addy above:

"At the moment, the only way to get them is by mail: send a check for $5 made out to The Digital Tradition, and a stamped self-addressed envelope. A 34 cent stamp will do for up to three of them.

The Digital Tradition,
28 Powell Street
Greenwich, CT 06831

Many thanks to Eric the Viking for bringing the patches across to the Fylde Folk Festival hope sales went OK - I'm sure you must have sold some T-Shirts as they kept multiplying throughout the week-end!

Maybe next year we can sort a stall out? we have 12 months to go!

nice seeing you,

Pete

Got mine from Ickle at Towersey. One is in the front of the car visible thru the windscreen & the other is used as a beer mat at sessions etc. I'm crap at sewing, so their never likely to be actually sewn onto anything!

Cheers

We still have LOTS of mudcat patches. This is the beginning of the summer festival season. Anyone else want patches so people can identify them at festivals?

The details again:
3 inch diameter patch of the mudcat in the frying pan/banjo in a red border
they're five bucks apiece, and can be obtained by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to:
dick greenhaus 28 Powell Street Greenwich, CT 06831
In the US, a 34-cent stamp will handle up to three of them.
Bill Sables has some in England and we will be at the National Fold Festival of Scotland and Whitby Folk Week this August.
