Well, I suppose Elsie will slap my hand for posting Neil Young lyrics, but it SOUNDS like a folk song...

LOVE IS A ROSE
(Neil Young)
As recorded by Neil Young on "Decade" (1972)

Love is a rose but you'd better not pick it.
It only grows when it's on the vine.
A handful of thorns, and you'll know you've missed it.
You'll lose your love when you say the word "mine."

I want to see what's never been seen.
I want to live that age-old dream.
Come on, lass, we can go together.
Let's take the best right now.
Take the best right now.

I want to go to an old hoedown
Long ago in a western town.
Pick me up if my feet are draggin'.
Give me a lift and I'll hay your wagon.

Love is a rose but you'd better not pick it.
It only grows when it's on the vine.
A handful of thorns, and you'll know you've missed it.
You'll lose your love when you say the word "mine."
Mine, mine.
Love is a rose. (4x)

If Elsie slaps your hand, Joe, she'll have to slap me too. I always thought Neil Young was the greatest lyricist to ever come out of the rock music scene (including Bob Dylan and John Lennon). His imagery is excellent. He's about the only non-folk/blues/celtic guy I still listen to now and then.
