I like Marty Stuart
I like ELO
And I think Billy Jackson is
The greatest thing you know
Yeah, I love Dougie, Queen, and Eddi
And Days of Future Passed
But if there's anybody that don't like Oasis
You can kiss my ass!

Cause I think what they've done is well worth doing
And they're doing in the best way that they can
You're the only one that you are screwin'
When you put down what you don't understand

Now I ain't saying they're the first or the last
But if there's anybody that don't like Oasis
They can kiss me ass!

Funny chords, Oasis. Lots of open strings when they play up the neck. It's almost as if they wanted to be pipers or like the gutarist is missing a finger. Perhaps I'm confusing them with Radiohead. I'm getting old and decrepit. Was it Radiohead where the guys went off to college except for the youngest guy who stayed home and swallowed a guitar?

I'm also a big Radiohead fan, and I had not heard that story! I think though you must be thinking of Radiohead, they do use a lot of atmosphere open up-the-neck chords. Oasis (well, Noel) uses a lot of major & minor sevenths, and well as added 9ths and suspensions.

Mbo - no one is fooled by all this "Oasis" stuff you keep going on about...your posting of 12 Sep 12:22 AM isn't really about Oasis at all...it's a not too subtle ploy to flirt with the female contingency on Mudcat, that's what it is...

Mbo - it ain't gonna work. When you want girls to like you, you don't invite them to kiss your ass. Trust me on this. A little subtlety goes a long way in courtship.

:-) !!!! (I'm just joking, Mbo, I know you love Oasis.)

And you're right about flattop...he's a smart one...but I just love razzing him, that's all. Besides, he hasn't got me all figured out, though maybe he thinks he does. Mind you, I haven't got him all figured out either. I don't have enough time for that, and the pay is lousy.

mousethief - Oasis is a rock group that came into being a few years back (as far as I know)and has been quite successful. Mbo loves them. Their music is sometimes a bit reminiscent of the Beatles, to my way of thinking. Some of their stuff is pretty good. Ask Mbo for a more complete description of this band...you could send him a PM on that.

RichM - I am indeed relieved that you chose not to post to this thread...or rather that you did not choose not to not post to this thread...not. This demonstrates your good taste and discretion...not!

But what he did to Cleigh
Would blow ya away
'Twas the damndest thing I ever I ever saw!

In Bremen-town lives a Cletus
Whose lack of couth would defeat us
Then along came 'Spaw
They declared it a draw
For competition they didn't need us

Bill D with a fervor that burned
Would leave no blank wood unturned
He was once heard to say
That there was no way
That his talent could ever be learned

Little Hawk and Flattop walking past McGill
Decide to stop and use it, one was feeling ill
Kindly the gloved hand beckoned
They didn't need it that bad, they reckoned
Last seen they were cresting the hill.

Yeah, apologies in advance to Rick Kane for missing his usual Wednesday night gig. Got to go and dance under the moon instead. We tried to get flattop to come along for that too, but no go. We got a neat little leprechaun outfit made up for him special, with the little leather boots with the pointy toes, and the tunic, trousers and belt, and the nifty little cap as well, plus a cape with the slogan "Born to raise Heck!" printed on it. He declined, unfortunately. We were hoping that he would dance the hornpipe while Sophocleese played a medieval ditty on her recorder.

Sigh....

Well, maybe next time.

Banjer - where the heck are you from? Are you an Orillian? I like your limericks!

Spaw had got so fed up with the postings
That he lay in the sun for a toasting
When down came a bomb
It was from Major Tom
And it gave his aplomb quite a roasting

He leaped up in a froth of dismay
And declared, with a holler "No way!"
As his pants were blown off
Causing neighbours to cough
And then turn their shocked faces away

As he ran for the house he did hear
A loud cackle that rang in his ear
'Twas the astronaut's shade
As it rose from the glade
And pursued with a vengeance most clear

"You have slandered my death and my name
And upon David Bowie brought shame
Now list, ye vile traitor
Ye prancer and prater
To the doom that befalls on your frame

Unto you a most hideous fate
To be tied hand and foot to a plate
In the hands of a giant
Not 2000-compliant
Who's propensities I'll soon relate

He devours the foul and the fair
Leaving nothing but soiled underwear
Which in your case dear Spaw
Means he's eating you raw
And leaving not one single hair

So prepare for the worst, wretched Spaw
As upon you descendeth his claws
A pox on your person
For that matter, a curse on
Your head, and your house..."(wild applause!)

Anyway, he's a good man I can tell and even though an old girlfriend once described his genitals in their most aroused state as looking like "a melting fudgsicle flanked by two jelly beans," he's still OK by me.

LH, I can see where it could be easier to pen a 'multi limerick' because the trick is to find words that rhyme. You're too clever for us, Firecat. I think you should apply for a position on staff at the NYCFTTS.

Joke:

There were these 3 really macho mice drinking together at a bar.

One of them downs his beer, slams his mug down on the bar, and says "I'm so tough that when I find some cheese in a mousetrap I just grab the cheese with one hand and catch the trap in my other hand as it comes down! Then I pump the trap 20 or 30 times with my left arm while I eat the cheese. Then I bust the f*cking thing over my knee!"

The second mouse downs his beer and slams the empty mug on the bar. "That's nothing," he snarls. "You know that white rat poison that's all over in people's houses? I put a cupful of it in my gargling water every morning after brushing my teeth, gargle it, and then swallow it in one gulp! Doesn't have any effect on me whatsoever."

The third mouse looks at them with contempt, downs his beer, slams down his mug and starts to walk out of the place.

"Hey!" yells the first mouse, "Where do you think you're going?"

"I'm going home to f*ck the cat!" says the third mouse.

Someone posted to alt.religion.witchcraft, and literally asked "for a curse"

Standarde Curse (for offending parties)

Gather together one candle of each colour--every colour ye can find; the wider the spectrum (and the more individual hues) , the stronger the curse.
Procure four stycks of dragon's bloode incense and four white candles as well. Since this spelle beares moste on the aire element, it is required that a long robe or skirt be worne, at least during the casting of your circle.

Arranging your candles so that they are dissonant wythe their neighbours (blue by orange, red by green, pastels by vibrants, etc.) cast your circle (with a diameter of 5 feet), placing the candles as you walk widdershins.
Walk once more arounde your circle, lighting your candles (from one to the next, once the first has beene lit). Next, calle your quarters and, as you calle each, place and light a white candle and a stick of incense, making an inner circle of white candles wythe the incense wythyn it, all pointing toward the center (the ends of the stycks should meet). Spend somme extra tyme with the aire quarter, as it is moste vital in this spelle.

Now is the tyme to builde your energie and sennde your intentions through the aire to the offending partie. Walking widdershins betweene your circles of candles, feel the aire element being awakened by your movements, with your long robe, skirt, or cloake. Hold not their ample folds; let them capture and release the aire as they will. As you feele your energy builde, concentrate on your intention and walke faster in your circle.

Before the energie is released, as ye walke rapidly, meditate on the law of three and of any way your actions, if harmful, may finde of coming back to you threefolde.

It is recommended thatte a chalice of watyr be kepte nearbye in case of collaboration betweene the fyre elemente and the law of three.

* * *

An alternative to the Standarde Curse (for offending parties):

Look the offending partie in his or her eyes.

Mutter, "damn."

Turne awaye and quitte the roome.

THIS LIMERICK-POEM DESTROYS FASCISTS:

A gorilla from El Ferrol, Spain
Tried taking a ride on the train
But soon he was found
To be monkeying around
And behaving, quite simply, insane

He had purloined a bucket of figs
And released a contingent of pigs
From the rear baggage car
As they ran through the bar
He danced a maniacal jig

He devoured the figs with a grin
And gave an old matron a spin
With a shreik and a curse
She surrendered her purse
Oh my! What a hideous din!

As the train thundered into Santander
He was heard to yell "What? NO BANANERS???
I'll purloin the lot
You bilious sots!
Go fetch me the produce commander!"

But the produce commander was ill
Having swallowed a horse-breeding pill
Instead came a brace
Of Spanish police
In a mood fit to plunder and kill

They quickly made ready their guns
Set to "massacre", not just to "stun"
But before the command
With a wave of his hand
The gorilla arrested their fun

He said "Do you not notice this brow?
And this noble visage? Don't you now?"
Said the chief of police
"It's the General! All cease!"
It was Franco. They all scraped and bowed.

*(Yes, I know that gorillas are not monkeys, but this was no ordinary gorilla.)

On this there can be no debate
For those who do the squeezebox hate,
Come here and let me thump your pate.

For though the squeezebox conjures scorn
(And some would liken it to porn)
Of the choirs of heaven it was born

With strength and form just like an ox
Upon your house shall be no pox.

Subject: RE: DON'T POST TO THIS THREAD, EITHER!!!
From: mousethief

Phil Spector was an important record producer in the early 1960's. His claim to fame was a sound called the "wall of sound" which was basically a whole lot of different instruments in the background of a song, described by one web site as "a multitracked, overdubbed aural symphony Phil used as the smorgasbord to highlight his singers." The article on Phil in the R&R Hall of Fame says "The chief ingredients in the Wall of Sound -- a massive and cavernous roar created by the fusing of many individual instruments -- were maximum volume and liberal use of echo."

The point being that there is no point in the song where there is just silence, and few where just one instrument is playing. Hence, "wall of sound."

He produced the Ronettes (which starred his wife Ronnie Spector), the Crystals, and the Righteous Brothers (where the "wall" was a bit more subdued), and other lesser acts.

You see Rizla, Little Hawk started this thread to keep out of trouble. He got into lots of trouble in previuos lives when he had less to do than to write to mudcat. I won't tell you everything that he confessed on the last night that we met at Finnegans, Orillia's Irish pub with 30 televisions and not much Irish, but I could tell you one story.

A few years ago, back in the 1920s, Little Hawk got into big trouble as a young executive. After borrowing a large sum of money from his company and losing it playing the stock market, he sank into a deep despair. He stumbled down to a bridge over the river, climbed up on the rail. As thoughts about being caught and his ruined career tormented his mind, a gnarled hand grabbed his arm. He turned and saw an ancient crone in a black cloak, with a wrinkled face and stringy gray hair. "Don't jump," she rasped. "I'm a witch, and I'll grant you three wishes for a slight consideration."

"I'm beyond help," Hawker replied, but he told her his troubles anyway.

"Nothing to it," she said, crackling, and she passed her hand before his eyes, "You now have a personal account of $200,000!" She passed her hand again. "The money is all back in the company vault!" She covered his eyes for the third time. "And you have just been elected first vice-president of the company."

Stunned, speechless, Little hawk blurts out, "What do I owe you?"

"You must spend the night making love to me, " she smiled toothlessly.

The thought revolted him, but it was certainly worth it, he thought, and together they retired to a nearby hotel. In the morning, the distasteful ordeal over, he was dressing to go home when the old crone in the bed rolled over and asked, "Say sonny, how old are you?"

"I'm fifty-two," he said, "Why?"

"Aren't you a little old to believe in witches?"

flattop, flattop, flattop...I am so concerned for your state of mind. I know that Christmas can be a depressing time for some, and it seems that you are having a rough time.

Matter of fact, I still do believe in witches...and they are not wrinkled old crones, generally speaking. At least, not the ones I know.

Your story was pretty darn funny (specially the punch line), but had a couple of inconsistencies that I feel duty-bound to point out:

1. "He got into lots of trouble in previuos lives when he had less to do than to write to mudcat." Wrong! I have NEVER had less to do than writing to Mudcat! :-) In this life, in fact, I have mastered the art of having less to do than in any other life I have ever experienced, and I'm proud of it.

2. "Stunned, speechless, Little hawk blurts out, "What do I owe you?" Wrong. People who are speechless don't blurt out anything...they just stand there.

3. Your story is a vile calumny, an unconscionable prevarication, a slander of the first order, and I will get you back for it in some devious and hideous way yet to be determined.

Merry Christmas, Flatso!

Don't expect me to take care of flattop's hormones, Carol. I don't even find him attractive. For one thing, he's got a hairdo that would scare the quills off an Alaskan porcupine. For another, he is seriously lacking in the sort of social skills which are required in order to maintain friendships and normal business relations in a community of this size. I won't go into details...

As for you, Hesperis, TALK ABOUT THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK!!! Believe me, folks, if it were not for normal daily necessities like eating, sleeping, going to the bathroom, and so on, she would probably never be found doing anything BUT playing Quest For Glory! She is presently just beginning to play QFG II...AARGHHHH! There are still games 3 to 5 of the cursed thing waiting after that!!! She has to play out every blessed situation possible 3 WAYS...as a fighter, then as a thief, then as a mage. God give me strength to endure.

Now it's my turn to ask you, are ok this festive season or have you nibbled too much fruitcake? On another thread where you've been bushwacking American kats, I see you making claims that, "There are no aliens." Could have knocked me over with a tail-feather.

Cc, I thought you took all 20 McGill vows before they gave you the key to their famous blue cubicles, like no rude noises outside McGill's elegant plastic walls, no spreading secrets within a half-day of receiving them, and never offer clues on streams of silliness.

P.S. Now that we're over 100, isn't time to start a continuation of this thread with blue clickies to the previous two. I think that's your job Little Hawk since most of us would be challenged to come up with such interesting uppercase subjects.
