OK, here's the deal. Is your brain strained? Is your common sense stretched just too damn thin? Have you out-thunk your present energy level like over-driving your headlights? Have you ascended one height too many in a day, a week, or a month? Or fallen into one pit too many-- yours or someone else's?? Hello! Yeah!! I'm talkin' to YOU!

Do you need a place to sorta catch up with yourself and ask yourself where the hell ya BEEN???

This is THAT tavern. It is NEAR the Neil Young Center but not IN it. It's on the way TO it. Yup. Sit here a spell and watch the amba-lances roll by, with me.

Recliners, down comforters, laps... what else do YOU need to get geared up to head on back out there into the fray? Or leave the fray behind maybe? Write it for yourself, right here. Or just head on in and collapse.

And no, this is NOT a story thread, if you want one of them thar things, start your own thread. This is for people who just don't wanna work that hard! I am not sure this tavern even has a jello pit!

Reserve that big bean bag chair for me; the plush velvet one with the ceiling fan over it. I'll be by sometime this evening and collapse. If there's anyone around willing to give a neck/backrub, I wouldn't mind that either....

Has the primal scream room opened back up? I'd like to sign up for a session if it has.

Noreen, MMario-- In this tavern, your wish is your command. (I am not in charge, I just sniffed out the right doorway, and am just here partaking of my own brand of recovery.) MMario, I'll trade minute for minute, for hand-holding.

I believe all the needs can be matched up if enough people show up.

And for my recovery I am wandering around with headphones on listening to an amazing new Christian music CD produced by one of our own Mudcatters, and as i sway I am emitting wordless harmonies in a sort of ecstatic daze, absorbed in learning the tunes and words... not to bother anyone and not to share this time neither!

Eventually however I will get dizzy and thus can barf on request as described above. Aw geez NO I am NOT bulimic! Just feeling crappy! Mind if I drop into the recliner next to you as I croon this tune... oh my, so pretty.... silly grins for all.

And hey! Snog yourselves!!! I am tired of typing that little kiss symbol! I never got even ONE back!!

Morty, you can use it from now in!

I notice this place has a nice white sandy beach (silica sand, not Gulf of Mexico powder). I am sprawled out on one of those chaize thingies (sp?). There is a softly spoken waiter who brings me cool things to drink as I allow myself to become mesmerized by the sound of the lapping waves against the shore.

The sun is gentle and it feels rich and creamy like the color of buttercups against my skin. The air is soft, and mellow, and it blows gently over me carrying the smell of salt water.

I get up and walk along the beach, feeling the grit of the sand massage the bottoms of my feet. Seagulls are swooping down to drop shelled things on rocks to break them open. I can hear their calls.

I walk in the shallows of the water, and feel the push and pull of the waves against my feet and legs. I can feel the tang of the salt water against my skin.

The sound of the waves, the seagulls, and the gentle breeze massage the insides of my ears. My skin is caressed by the warmth of the sun and the breeze. The salt air fills my nose and lungs as I breath deeply and fill my soul with the spirit of the ocean and the shore.

I'm in heaven.

Ooh, great. a space out with good people thread. A place I can have virtual Hennessey, virtual sugary ice cold lemonade, virtual Haagen-Dasz coffee ice cream ...

I brought my back spinal thingee to lie on which is like a visit to a good chiropractor. I'll let you use it in exchange for neckrubs.

The Tumbleweed Festival here over the holiday weekend was great; we ended up with a sea chantey singalong at a pizza joint until they threw us out at closing, midnight. Reentry is hard after a night like that. Getting my annual rating didn't help, either.

Just how old are you looking for, MMario? Why did I think you were female? Can you waltz??

The sun is hanging low in the sky. The warm breezes are mixed with cool air to signal the coming of night. The water is calm, with little waves that dance and flicker like candle flames as they reflect the setting sun.

Some people are standing in the shallow part of the water. Their trousers are rolled up above their knees to keep them dry. The people have garden rakes and bushel baskets. They are bent over, digging around in the mud of the tidal flats for the clams that they will take home and eat, steamed, with ears of buttery sweet-corn.

I don't want to leave this place. The sand still feels warm under my feet. The air is pungent with the scent of the sea, and it feeds my soul with it's life. The sound of the gently moving water lulls my spirit with its rythmic push and pull against the shore. This is the place where innocence lives, and I want to stay.

flattop,

I miss you. Where you been? You get my PM's a couple weeks back? My PM page has been acting funny. Here we had finally learned how to talk to each other.

Please Praise, you're embarrassing me. I've got my image as a tough nut to protect. I miss you too but I wouldn't say it on a public thread.

Looks like we've been hanging by different threads. I only have time to read a few these days. How about you? Looking back at the PMs, it looks like I owe you one. I don't know why I didn't reply, except, perhaps, the last one that you sent sounded so conclusive that I couldn't think of anything to say. You ended that last one with six numbered points.

Actually, I owe you a couple of other replies. I never answered your questions that followed your Chicago stories. Then there was that night that you asked me why I bait you. I never did give you a proper answer. I haven't forgotten. One of these days I will try to explain how my mind works.

flattop can't explain how his mind works, actually. Because his mind doesn't actually work...

IhadtosaythatitwasthereI'msosorryandIreallymeanit,honest!

MMario, if you REALLY have 1400 pages to proofread, I'll do it. I will read almost anything! Including *empty* cereal boxes. Including strange threads on mudcat at 2 am...

Well, right now, I need to be somewhere sitting in a hammock, in the hot shade under a hot sun, with a jug of water next to me, a very tall glass of spiked honey lemonade sliding down my throat, an automatically replenishing plate of really good falafels, hummus, and celery sticks balancing on my stomach, and a pile of books three feet high next to me. I'll probably finish the books in about three days.

I need to just kick back. I don't even want to do music right now. (Actually, I'd better go check my temperature...)

Hesperis - yes, it really is about 1400 pages to proof, trouble is it has to be done against existing text of Child's Ballads - which mean having access to the hardcopy. I've never even SEEN a copy.

I HAVE e-text - just don't know if it is accurate or not.

Leej, go ahead. Here I was expecting jokes about 'hummus' and dirt (humus), and instead someone knows what hummus is and wants some!

MMario - Well, *if* I get really lucky and come across an original hardcover copy of Child Ballads, I'll proofread fer ya. Unfortunately, that's not very likely...

Well, I wanted to play music again, so I know I'm not sick or anything. Wrote a song today, first draft. I'm ignoring it until monday, and then I'll work out the music.

*sigh of pure happiness*

My house is cleaned for my book group last night, there's lots of leftover lemonade and fresh scones with peach puree, so if anyone wants to slide over into my rose garden, come on in. I only plant big splashy-looking pink or purple roses with old rose perfume (no kidding). The roses are coming off our annual hot streak and are at their perfumey best. There are a couple of nook/crannies if you want to flop down on a small blanket and eat currants or heirloom brandywine tomatoes right off the stem.

MAG, I'll be right over. My house is cleaned from the monthly jam session last night and if I make tracks fast and stay outta my house maybe it'll stay clean till next month's.

Where can I go after MAG gets tired of the electric autoharp? I'm packed and ready!

Have washboard, will travel! But I don't do windows!

We can start the dance now and finish it when there is time, and in between we can leave ourselves dancing the night away.

Starts like this. I curtsey and rise to your outstretched hand. You write what's next. Then leave us dancing.

*Curtsey*

The really neat thing is I still get to go home to my husband, who eagerly awaits, and yet am dancing here with a gentleman and good friend.

This little nook is beautiful. I lie on my back on the thick, lush carpet of grass. The grass feels cool and soothing, and it tickles my neck and arms. I like the way the branches of the antique rose bushes join together to form an arch over my head. I can see the deep blue of the sky through the latticework of the leaves and branches.

The scent of roses wafts gently around me, bathing me in the fragrance of a bygone time. There is no time here. Only beauty.

I can hear the sound of water, jumping and falling playfully, in a little fountain that I can see just beyond the entrance to my little nook.

My consciousness floats carelessly away on the trail of rose-scent, as I descend, gently, into a deep slumber.....

Did someone say olive bread? Mmmmmm.
Where's the garlic? There's just something about garlic and basil and olive bread, in a rose garden under a waning moon. And my super-spicy muffins for dessert. I brought a whole basket, so dig in!

Hi! I just came up for air, and look what I've been missing...what a great thread!

Carol C - you have a great sense of place and timelessness. It sounds a lot like some of the best moments in my trip to Cuba. Add to the scene little sand lizards that bask in the sun and scamper away when you come too near, then stop and gaze at you intently with jewel-like eyes. As the afternoon sun begins to wane, brightly coloured chameleons emerge from the shrubbery, resplendent in astonishing colours...bright blue, deep indigo, leafy green, golden brown, chocolate, and coral pink...each one in a colour scheme of its own choosing. These lizards are clearly expressing nothing more than sheer joy, as their colours in no way serve to camouflage them. I have always really like lizards.

This is what you do, folks. Find one whom you love dearly and take a walk under the shining moon. Listen to the ducks quacking sleepily across the bay (and make sure it really is a duck...that's an in joke). Stop at a local cafe for a late snack. Then go back home and lie around for hours and hours in the arms of the one you love...and drift...and drift...and dream. Do every kind thing you can think of for them, because kindness returns seven-fold to the giver.

Maybe life can get better than this, but if so, I sure don't know how.

Time passes slowly up here in the mountains
We sit beside bridges and walk beside fountains
Catch the wild fishes that float through the streams
Time passes slowly when you're lost in a dream

Once I had a sweetheart, she was fine and good lookin'
We sat in the kitchen while her momma was cookin'
Staring through the windows at the stars so high above
Time passes slowly when you're searching for love

Ain't no reason to go, in a wagon to the town
Ain't no reason to go to the Fair
Ain't no reason to go up, ain't no reason to go down
Ain't no reason to go anywhere...

Time passes slowly up here in the daylight
We stare straight ahead and try so hard to stay right
Like a red rose of summer that blooms in the day
Time passes slowly and fades away

- by Bob Dylan, who also said...

May God bless and keep you always, May your wishes all come true.
