Scheduling a HearMe POETRY session

23 Sep 00 - 06:10 PM (#304016)
Subject: Scheduling a HearMe POETRY session
From: katlaughing

So as not to interfere with the Mudcat Concerts scheduling, and wanting to make this an easy *do* for those in the UK, too (and, Australia, if they are about), I'd like to know what times might be best for an all poetry HearMe. Looking at the concert schedule, so far, the following dates seem not to conflict. Please cast you vote for whichever would be
#1=best;
#2=next best;
#3=might be able to;
#4=terrible timing

majority rules.:-)

ALL TIMES ARE MUDCAT TIME/EST

Friday 29th Sept. - 6pm
Saturday 30th Sept. - 6pm (or earlier)
Sunday Oct. 1 - 11a (would have to be done by 730pm so it wouldn't interfere with the regulr HearMe session)

Friday 6th Oct - 6pm
Saturday 7th Oct. - 6p or earlier

There is a slight change I may wind up out of town on one of those w/ends. If that happens, is there someone who would be willing to jump in to host? If not, I would just reschedule.

Thanks!

kat

NOT SURE what I was thinking!! These would be in the special session room which Jon set up, so no conflict with the regular Sunday song circle, just have to watch the Concert times.

For me, Friday and Saturday are both out for family reasons.

Sunday Oct 1st is possible, although not desirable. I'd really like to be in the HearMe Sunday singing session. Faced with a choice, I guess I'd come to the poetry session since it's an occasional thing.

Unfortunately, 6pm Mudcat time is a bad starting time for me. That's 5 pm here, and so I'd have to come in later.

Despite the negatives above, I like the idea of a poetry session, and want to participate.

Kat,

I like the idea of a Hearme Poetry Session, can't decide which would be best, but would try to be there when ever it is.

Thanks. The reason I picked 6pm was because in one thread, someone from the UK said that would be a good time for them, as it is 11p and their free internet rates would be on as well as it was early enough they wouldn't have to stay up all night.

The times and dates I posted are really just ideas, hence this thread. DaveO, as far as the Sunday suggesiton goes, that's why I set it at 11AM, so that we could be done in time for people to go to the regular song circle Sunday evening. Course, I guess some people might not want to do a solid block of 11a-11p or whatever it worked out to, but they could always jump in and out.

Let's keep discussing it. I'd just like to see it happen, doesn't matter to me, really, when, just so we get a chance to share.

Thnanks,

kat

Somehow I missed that it was 11 am. If you have it then on October 1st, that's 10 here. I MIGHT be able to attend at that time. Might have to be later maybe as late as 1:30, and hope that things haven't folded by then.

A couple of us managed to fill almost three hours the other day, Dave, so I think will several more we'd still be around by 130p. After seeing the "did you ever have to recite" thread, I think we've plenty of people with plenty of material. Thanks for stating a preference. It doesn't have to be as early as 11A.

Everyone, please post your choices and/or suggestions and we'll try to pick a good time for as many of us as possible.

Thanks, Dave,

kat

Sorry, can we have a dual time posting please (like in recipe books where it says 750g/1.5lbs) - I still can't get my head around what time is where and when, and if it is, then it's Wednesday in Peru. 6.00pm to me is when I'm getting home from work, but am aware that it is time for most people's 11.30, or stupid o'clock in the morning....

HELP?!!

Liz, we keep to a standard time round here. Like yourself, I would find GMT easier but Mudcat Time (EST) does make sense and most of us try to stick with it. It is easy most of the time - just subtract 5 hours. The only time I can remember that not working was when the clocks changed, one of us changed a week or two before the other.

Now if I could just get used to reading and writing dates in mm/dd/yy format...

Hey! I put them in dd/mm/y just for you guys!**BG**

Liz, I have a great little program which Alison in Oz sent me that sits on your menu bar. Anytime you want to know the time elsewhere all you have to do is click on it. If you'd like a copy, just PM me your addy and I will send it over.

Thanks, Amergin. So Liz and Jon, does this mean you are interested?:-)

Micca, Unless I'm much mistaken and very confused, GMT (Uk Time) is only five hours ahead of EST (Mudcat time), not seven hours.

I would love to be in on this, if I could figure out how to make HearMe work with my connection...

Anyone else want to weigh in as definitively as LeeJ and DaveO? I appreciate those of you who say you're flexible, too. Looks like Friday or Saturday may be best.

I'll wait to see if anyone posts more and decide in time for the radio show, so they can announce, okay?

Thanks,

In that message I was assuming you mean this Saturday. No can do, for several family reasons.

If you're talking about some future Saturday, I'm willing to "trade" Saturday (poetry) for Sunday night (HearMe regular) if I have to. But if I sit at the computer both nights I'm going to be in deep doo-doo with my Beautiful Wife of thirty-six years standing.

Okay, here it is, the final decision, at least for our first one:

MUDCAT ALL POETRY HEARME
SUNDAY, 1, October 2000
1pm MUDCAT TIME
SPECIAL CONCERT ROOM, that way, we can either finish up before the regular HearMe starts at 730p, or those who don't want to go to it, IF we're still going, can stay in without interfering.

Let me know if you see any problems with this and tune up yer favourites poems, your own and others'. I am really looking forward to this. Thanks, everyone. I will post a thread that morning as a reminder, with the link in it.

Amergin, I am sorry. I do think we may still be going by then, let's see that would be 130p my time. We will have started about 11a, my time, so, I don't think it is unrealistic to think we may still be going 2.5 hours later. At least check in, okay? I really wanted to hit a time that would work for us all. Yes, there will be another time, I am sure. Thanks, Amergin....kat
