Roll back your minds and bring out your VCR. Looking for the name and lyrics for the song in the movie "Trainspotting" which is sung (by the character Spud) after the passing of their friend Tommy. The last line in the song is "...when we were little boys."

I heard this song many years ago, I believe it's a traditional celtic song. Anyone with any help or suggestions?? First answer get a surprise... well, maybe?

I can't remeber the song, but we do have a copy of it. Can you give us some more of the lyrics or a hint about the style of music? I'll need time to watch it again and I'm a bit busy at present. BTW, good movie.

Helen

Thanks Helen.... I believe the song is a traditional funeral song from Scotland. The cast is sitting in the pub after the funeral for Tommy. Spud is singing the song.

Yep, sounds like Two Little Boys by Rolf Harris. Always made me cry when I was lickle (and I still am lickle).

Yep, It's "Two Little Boys" all right,

found it in the script:

There is a short silence before Spud begins softly singing 'Two Little Boys'. He finishes unaccompanied.

I couldn't find the lyrics, but I think The Shaw Brothers recorded a version, and a sample is on amazon.com if you look for The Shaw Brothers Collection.

Hope that helps,

Letty

OK, had another look, is this the song?

TWO LITTLE BOYS

Two little boys had two little toys
Each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played each summer's day
Warriors both of course
One little chap then had a mishap
Broke off his horse's head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy
As his young playmate said

Did you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Jack and don't be crying
I can go just as fast with two
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys

Long years had passed, war came so fast
Bravely they marched away
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
Wounded and dying lay
Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue
Gallops away to where Joe lay
Then came a voice he knew

Did you think I would leave you dying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying
I can go just as fast with two
Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

Do you think I would leave you dying
There's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying
Back to the ranks so blue
Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys
