One friend of mine is crazy about piping and want to purchase a bagpipe for his own. He is a stunent and very short of cash. He need an inexpensive 'reel' or full-size GHB, maybe used. Quote - we live in Russia. Whad'ya say?

I just did an ebay search and it is not hard to pick up a set for around $100 to $150 US. Just go to www.ebay.com.

remind friend, that long before he plays the pipes, that it takes practice and practice and practice with the chanters first. And that you can buy those separately. Available at Lark in the Morning for not too much $$$

It's me again. If I didn't become annoying already, can anybody tell us about your piping experience? How long will it take to learn GHB assuming you have (or not) some experience in playing, say, recorder, or other instruments?

Tanner, as Gypsy said, your friend will probably play a chanter for at least a year, before going on to the actual pipe. The Chanter is the portion which holds the reed, and is fingered.

For indoor use, it might be better to look at either the Shuttle Pipes, or lowlands pipe. Either of those can be played indoors. I've seen both available in A, rather than the more common pipe tunings.

I know and have known a number of pipers. It can take years to become a mediocre player of the great warpipes. Would your friend be interested in something smaller and quieter but still pipey? Say, northumbrian smallpipes?
